If Revis bounces back from his ACL injury (likely given other ACL recoveries lately), you figure they will have a solid 2-3 years of having one of the best corners in the game. If he doesn't work out, they just cut him.. and move on

This is a great point because by the time the Bucs are ready to compete for a championship Revis will be on the decline. For a team on the cusp of winning a SB I could understand making this move, but this team's success is predicated on the development of Freeman and the offense.

It's beyond being a pass happy league. In the grand scheme DB's are powerless to stop the passing games in today's NFL. Bargain basement is the way to go with DB's, especially corners. It's the last position I would spend resources on.

If you want to combat the passing game these days, it begins and ends with pass rush imo. Forget trying to cover anybody with these rules and these schemes. Find two cheap corners who are basically average, and hope you can get to the QB on a consistent basis.

Foolish move for Tampa Bay.

They lost, arguably, their best pass-rusher in Michael Bennet to Seattle. ATM, the depth chart probably has Clayborn and D'Quan Bowers on the outside. McCoy is inside at the 3-tech. Who they have playing nose - I don't know.

He's getting the 16 million for this first year. If he stays for a second (which I doubt when he underperforms his contract this year) he'll get the next set of money. It's still 8+ million too much. At this point, can you consider him an all-pro after his ACL injury? You're getting a CB with just as many question marks as a first round CB at this point.

Al Harris and Dominique Foxworth are a couple corners in recent history that I can remember that ended their careers. CBs require more lateral movement and stress on their knees than almost any other position. With the change of direction, backpedaling, etc.

And that was four years ago when he was 24 years old and didn't have major ACL surgery to his knee. I can think of two CB's who were once very solid options to their team and now are out of the league because of it: Dominique Foxworth (has had like 3+ surgeries since I believe before retiring) and Al Harris (became slow, useless for us and tore another ACL in the process). Before that? Both great options at corner.

It's hard to justify CB's that type of elite QB money.

Starting CBs that have won SB's the past 5 seasons:
Corey Graham, Cary Williams
Corey Webster, Aaron Ross (was this the year Giants had big issues in the secondary?)
Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams (Only strong CB duo out of this list imo)
Jabari Greer, Tracy Porter
Ike Taylor, Bryant McFadden

No one seems to understand that the Bucs gave him a physical and everything at their own facility. If they didn't feel comfortable with his health then they wouldn't have made this move. They were 7-9 last year. In a day when we've seen teams go from 1-15 to 11-5 I think you're a little off. The biggest weakness for the Bucs was their pass defense. Opposing offenses completed about 65% of their passes, 30 td's, and almost 5,000 pass yards. If Revis is what he was then those numbers should dramatically change. With already having the reigning #1 run defense adding a CB of this caliber gives the Bucs defense potential to be one of the better defenses in this league.

I don't doubt playing with Terrell Suggs, Haloti Ngata, Ray Lewis, and Ed Reed would make playing CB a lot easier...

Revis has proven to be able to have the effect on a defense to cover up so many holes. The Jets didn't have any elite pass rushers and in '09 didn't have shit at CB on the other side. Didn't matter. The Jets could blitz and roll a safety to the other side of the field and automatically make teams top target a non-factor.

If Revis is Revis after the injury, this is a great deal for the Bucs. They just have to let him be Revis and don't try to change him like the Eagles did with Asoughma.

No player the Jets take in this draft will ever replace Revis if he's still Revis ... and clearly no player will replace the real Revis with next year's 3rd round pick or 4th round pick.

This is simply a good gamble for the Bucs. If he fails, so be it. Shit happens. If he succeeds, an incredible trade.

You brought up my point in your post lol. you don't need to spend 16 million dollars on CB's to win a championship, hell you don't even need good ones. You need a strong offense and a front 7 that can disrupt the QB and slow down the offense, so long as you have serviceable corners you're good to go. Bucs could have and should have went that route.
