So clearly drafting a backup QB is the more optimal choice than say, trading that pick for what could become 4-6 immediate contributors.
LOL at "the Colts have neglected this position for years." No fucking shit. And Bill Gates has probably neglected to check his bank account.
Well, yes, obviously they didn't need to ever worry about it with Peyton, but they have to now.
The Colts can get contributors with their other six draft picks/free agency. You get the quarterback once. Aaron Rodgers should have been #1 (most people thought this was the best quarterback in the draft) and there were people who though he would go #1 or early first. 49ers missed their chance and instead went with Alex Smith, who they've still been stuck with for the past 7 years.
How many times have the Niners had high drafts picks, gotten contributors, and still suffer due to poor quarterback play? They have Patrick Willis, Frank Gore, and Vernon Davis, yet they still couldn't muster anything in those seven years in the worst division in the NFL.
With Indianapolis, we see the difference the quarterback makes on this team. They are most likely going to have the first pick. You have to take Luck with that pick.
Agree and disagree.
Agree that the Colts are screwed in the near future, but disagree its due to the fact that they don't have a successor to Manning.
First, even if the Colts had someone like Josh Freeman/Andy Dalton this year, they would still be terrible. Second, the Colts problems stem from the fact that for years they were drafting at the end of rounds because of their good record, and they made some bad draft picks in general (Donald Brown, Anthony Gonzalez, etc.).
Fair, but if they had either of those two, I can't imagine them being 0-6. Maybe 2-4.
And yes, that is their problem. But, again, the quarterback play made those non-issues.
Here's where the wannabe Mel Kipers will say "LUCK IS A ONCE IN A GENERATION PROSPECT."
Not saying he's going to be greatest thing ever, but there's no doubt he's solid. The kid is very athletic, great arm, he's accurate, and he's a threat on the ground. I just don't see anyone else like Luck coming out in the near future. Why pass on him?
