His values and morals would have gotten in the way of protecting his brand, so he chose to ignore them. So yeah.

I didnt mean it in the sense that its undeserving, its just unfortunate that it happened and ruined his legacy. I have no sympathy for Joe Pa.

Again, not defending his actions. Trust me, when he died, he died with the guilt of not doing more. I just find it laughable that people like you have that much faith in the justice system that Joe Paterno can make one phone call, then poof, there's an investigation, judgement, and conviction. You know, since there weren't any grand jury investigations before hand that were trying to do the same fucking thing....oh wait...

Should JoePa have had a little more initiative? Yes. Should he be getting this much flack? I don't think so. Don't get me wrong, I hope a coalition of elephants rape Sandusky, but JoePa didn't do the "wrong" things he did because he's evil or to do harm. There's a difference between someone who knows they're doing harm and means harm as opposed to someone doing the opposite.

He told his adviser, as he legally should, and probably thought it was resolved prematurely.

The stress killed him and that's extremely sad.

All i'm going to say is this, and then you guys can go back to kicking a corpse.

If everybody here was as self righteous and hollier than thou as they expect others to be, we would all be living in the clouds with Care Bears and there would be no sin.

I would simply suggest that before you castigate others, before you make broad and damaging assumptions on someone's character, you look at yourself and ask yourself 'have I ever been tested'? 'Have I ever made bad judgements'?

Does making one bad judgement (or even two or three) make you evil? Even if you may have thought you were doing the right thing at the time? Be careful how you answer.

Sandusky is the devil, here. Misplaced blame, misplaced anger, can be frivolous. Paterno may have made a mistake. I don't hate him for being human. I dont need to hate him to hate child abuse.

Of course people may have bad judgment in some critical situations. In my 18 years of life I've done a lot of stupid shit. But whenever a situation comes up where it may affect someone else's life in a negative way, I always air on the side of caution as I expect everyone else to. When you're in that situation what bad can come from going to the police and saying something? I can't think of anything.

I think this comes down to one of those situations where people don't want to get involved and do the bare minimum. He should still take responsibility for what he didn't do but because he's famous (and now dead) he no longer had to and it's a shame.

It was obvious from McQueery's comments that there are 4-5 different accounts of what Joe Pa actually was told. His alleged negligence to Sandusky's actions should be separate. Regardless of the situation he was a crucial constituent to a lot of people's lives. While I don't think he should be made to be a saint just yet, you can't condemn him when you don't know the facts...

I guess I look at it from the point of view, if you know something happened, and you don't do everything you can to make sure the authorities (not the Penn State Police but real cops and outsiders from the university) are involved, you failed and it overshadows everything you did.

A person can live an unbelievable life, but if you let boys be destroyed by a monster by Sandusky, and you didn't do EVERYTHING you possibly could, you deserve to have your legacy tarnished. Think about it if it was your child that was raped, and you knew Joe Pa knew something could have been up and didn't do everything.

Would you care about all those he helped or would you think more about all those he didn't? I am pretty sure you coach youth sports. No matter how many kids you taught and helped to be better men, would parents care if you didnt do everything you could to stop another coach from being a monster like Sandusky?

His on the field legacy will live but his off the field life will be tarnished. I give Sandusky by far the more hate then Joe Pa but he had a chance to stop it like most people have said. He let the people above him know, Joe could have done more but the people above him could have also done more.

Look, he said this incident was the first he'd heard of it. Whether you believe that or not is up to you. But in the 60 plus years he's been part of this university, he's always been known as truthful and upfront about everything.

I fully admit to being a Patrno guy and that very well be clouding my judgement. But I choose to merely label him as human, not some scumbag that allowed child molestation to happen right under his nose because he didn't give a fuck...

The janitor didn't report it to university officials, this allegtion didn't see the light of day until the recent grand jury report. The second allegation was handled by the PA Department of Public Welfare and the PSU Police, two organizations Paterno is not a part of to my knowledge.
