As far as Fox goes, I personaly think its all smoke and mirrors. They are going to start who ever plays the best in camp, even if its Brady Quinn. They want to keep Ortons confidence and his trade value up.

Huh? No. Not at all. His trade value is already set. Whether or not he starts is irrelevant. It's not like a GM is suddenly going to up their offer because he's #1 on the depth chart in March.

If anything, Orton's trade value could go down if he starts and looks like shit. If a team wants Orton, they already have a line drawn in the sand to what they'd offer for him.. and judging by other moves for QB's.. Orton wouldn't be worth much at all.

I don't understand the point of making this announcement before there is even an assurance there will be a training camp. I know Fox was likely led into the statement by a reporter's question, but he didn't have to give any kind of definitive answer at this point. This is a rebuilding team with a roster in complete flux and weird as it may seem there are probably only two people in the Broncos organization who garner any kind of respect from Broncos fans. And those two people are of course John Elway and surprisingly Tim Tebow.

This is not the way to conduct yourself as the coach of a team amidst the current state of the NFL. John Fox has to be smarter than to make statements like this before the Draft has even happened if we are to have any kind of faith in him as a fan base. To me it's just becoming more and more clear that Denver missed out on every head coach that they tried to bring in this off-season and had to settle.

It's not a good time to be a Broncos fan.

John Elways had already said "in so many words" Orton was the starter, a while back ago. This really isn't new news. I think Fox has been instructed on what to say about the QB situation until training camp when it will ultimately be up to him.

I see your point and your probably right. I just think this is a ploy to keep a positive spin on Orton during the off-season for what ever reason. I'm not sold on the fact that he already has the starting gig either.

I think they named Rodgers the starter for now, but we'll see.
