[ALL] June 2014 NPD numbers show Xbox One with improved sales

The July 2014 results from NPD are showing the Xbox One still trailing the PS4 here in the US but making some ground. Granted there is a much bigger gap between the two consoles looking at the entire global market but in the US it is still hard to believe the Xbox One is only 477k units behind the PS4. Considering the 360 had a 2:1 advantage over the PS3 here in the US, that shouldn't be that surprising I suppose.

My favorite console at the moment the PSVita is dying from lack of install base. 15,000 units is crazy.

While Microsoft has done a good job at righting the ship, it appears that they are still trying to fight off their original mistakes. MS intially trying to strongarm consumers by buying exclusive deals with developers that really weren't strong business decisions is making them look bad right now. The gaming stronghold they built with the 360 has all but disolved in under a year. They can rebuild it but they have a long way to go.

Interestingly enough I just started reading a Game Informer article from about a year ago about just this. It;s the article where they speak to the developer of Retro City Rampage and XBLA in general and how MS refused to get off it;s high horse with their antiquated policies, especially concerning indie developers. It was their way or the highway. I think after getting their head kicked in at the beginning of this gen and Phil taking over they finally realized that they needed to right that ship.

I fall under the category of casual and Im no longer interested. If I became so Id still be worried about them suddenly shifting back to draconian thoughts.

The recover buy putting a person with a better handle in charge (done), lowering the price point (done) and having a strong E3 that focuses on games (done). This is from another thread I posted earlier-

Remember that the 360 outsold the PS3 2:1 in the US market last generation. If MS starts to regain the trust of those consumers when they are ready to upgrade, they will most likely go to the Xbox One as the above chart indicates.

Well, it's still only $400, end of the day. I mean, Sony could very well do the same thing at some point, so it's not really a reason not to buy the console if you're interested in it.

That being said, I'd say MS Xbox as a company now is virtually nothing like it was when the Juan was announced. I think the bigger thing was losing the Kinect.

Not going to happen. MS let sony back in the game at the end of last cycle. Sony built a better machine and now it's a wrap. I never understood the love affair with the xbox 360 either. Other than the fact that it released a year before the ps3 what did I it have going for it?

I think most gamers (especially in the US) felt like the 360 had a graphical advantage, a better controller and a better online experience than the PS3.

That was a huge trifecta. XBL was light years ahead with that controller and online experience. Plus PS3 was retardedly expensive.

PSN also went down for that long period of time when people had their information compromised. I am glad they learned their lesson in that free doesn't mean better. From what I've experienced, they have a much better online experience now, and the big thing for hard core gamers is the amount of deals they have on games.

That early price difference was big. It also took developers quite some time to figure out how to properly develop for that mess of an architecture they went with on the PS3, which led to early-gen games looking and playing better on 360 (although that absolutely flip-flopped later in the gen when they did figure it out).

Not as important as XBL and architecture that has been mentioned, but another part of its appeal I'd say was their approach early on to its Arcade and indie games. Sad that they have found a way to fuck that up, but for a large part of the early lifespan of last gen, 360 was like the PS4 in terms of the indie/downloadable games front.

Madden 07 on the PS3 was terrible and I failed to sell the system at a profit, so back it went to GameStop. I repurchased the console in early 2008 to play COD MW, which is one of my favorite games of all time. I originally purchased the PS3 over the 360 because in my opinion it had superior hardware.

I had (well, have) both. I got the 360 in 2006 and then the PS3 in 2007. I liked both for different reasons. By the end of the generation though, I personally found my PS3 collecting dust because I despise the Dual Shock 3. So overall over the course of the generation, I leaned more towards playing my 360 for most games, and PS3 for Sony exclusives.

When I graduated high school in 2006, I bought an X-Box 360. I actually went through and primarily played a bunch of X-Box games like KOTOR and Halo 1/2 before any 360 games. I believe in early 2007 I got a PS3.

Most of my friends played on the 360, so that is what I played the most. For the PS3, I ended up playing MLB The Show primarily (and other exclusives) and using it as a Blu-Ray player.
