Kinect will sell because the 360 caters to the growing casual gamer market with disposable incomes.

Shit'll really go down if a GoW or Halo title is developed for it.

You forgot the biggest factor. The room you need to adequately use Kinect. Its a joke. Do I have the room? Yup, but I'm the exception to the rule. Most people have much smaller living rooms or play in a bedroom.
And don't even get me started on the launch lineup. Laaaaaaame. Even OXM slammed it. It has basically NO games for core gamers. Dance Central is the closest thing.

I think both Move and Kinect are going to fail hard. But at least there seem to be a lot of developers on the Move side incorporating cool features in hardcore games. I just read an article in GamePro about FPS's and the Move shit for Killzone 3 is supposed to be a game changer.
I honestly can't even think of a legitimate use for Kinect in hardcore games besides the Minority Report menu shit.
Kinect will fail because of the room it needs and the lack of any "real" game support. Move will fail because it's a complete Wii rip off.

I have the new dashboard, and from the looks of it, MS seems to be "abandoning" the hardcore.

I put it in quotations because it's not quite full on abandonment, but it feels like it. It's smooth, it's pretty...most of all, it's "mom and dad have no idea how to play video games" easy. MS is skewing more and more towards the family gaming aspect, and with Kinect, they will win. Everyone is so sure these will be a huge bust...but most of you aren't in the key demographic.

I am. I am a married 34 year old man with 2 kids. I am the guy who was raised on video games, and is raising his kids on it, too. I can see this as the next step...REAL step, not like virtual reality or hokey shit like that...towards total immersion gaming. My demographic is the key to the success of this, and that's what MS really cares about. They don't really give a shit about you 20 year olds who play Gears and Madden, because you'll be there no matter what. They care about me, my family, and my (lack of) disposable income.

My kids, 8 and 11, are super excited for it, and they have a Wii they play nonstop. Hell, I'm looking forward to it just so I never have to use a DVD remote again. We're already talking about playing games on Christmas morning.

agreed Riley......everyone thought the Wii was going to be a bust but there are WAY more non video game folks out there than us. Those are the people that will buy it. MS is the business to make money and almost alway succeed.

But why was it successful? well, the marketing was geared towards a mass audience; kids to grandparents and everyone in between; it had a Zelda game there to appeal to the hardcore and a free copy of Wii sports to appeal to well almost everyone. Wii was also competitively priced at $250, in contrast to the much more expensive 360 and PS3 at the time. Not to mention the nostaligia factor.

All these people already have Wii's, why would they buy a kinect? Lets be generous and say half of the wii's base has a 360 in their home. It's a $150 add-on plus a game, lets say dance central since it's the most hyped. Thats $200+ for a wii-like device with a library of wii game-knockoffs. $400+ if the non video game folk dont even have a 360.

It's not looking good for the Kinect, with the lack of inovation in the software lineup and the unfriendly price point.

For the avg. person who has a wii, it's not all that different to justify buying a Kinect. For the Nongamer , a wii is a better value.

If youre expecting Wii-like launch numbers, you're sorely mistaken

My living room is simply not right for this kind of device.
My couch is only about 6 feet from my TV and I have a coffee table.
I can't imagine doing the funky chicken to a Go Go Dance game.

These are my thoughts exactly. The Wii surpassed everyones expectations, by a country mile. Lightning isn't going to strike twice because the people that want that motion gaming experience already own a Wii.
And for those thinking either Kinect or Move is going to sell like gang busters, just check the stats on pre-orders. Pathetic.
The motion gaming ship has sailed. Nintendo already owns the market. MS and Sony are about four years too late.
