[360] Kinect....Yay..or Nay ?

Really wanted one at first.
When I heard how dumbed down the camera was getting I had a wait and see approach.

My only current selling point would have been the controller free menus.
Considering how little actual video and music I watch through the cumbersome 360 options I think Im officially under "no interest".


Wondering what you guys think as Amazon and B.Buy reportedly have sold out pre-orders.

I'm totally against any motion controlled gaming and I think its a step back and a waste of time.

I honestly can't see what kind of "legitimate" games it will ever be useful with. At least with the Wii and Move you still have controllers. You can still play shooters, action games, etc. Besides petting animals and jumping up and down on a raft, what's the point?

Menu navigation and voice commands are awesome but definitely not $150 awesome.

The Non-Gaming Side of Kinect

Kinect's ability to turn the air in front of your face into a touch screen that can control movies, music and a bit of the dashboard is the sort of magical experience Microsoft has been selling since they unveiled Kinect.

That said, the offerings at launch are very limited. You can create avatars, you can message friends, you can check out Last.FM, Zune or ESPN and that's about it.

What you can't do is use the Kinect's ability to recognize you as a new form of parental controls. Nor can you turn your Xbox 360 on or off. And you can't (at least yet) control my favorite non-gaming app on the dashboard: Netflix.

I think most casual users don't even know what the dashboard does. I know my bro doesn't....all he does is put the game in and play games.

To me that moving stuff in the air shit it crap. Just give me the controller....much more precise.

I'm on the fence. Depending on the games that are available in the coming months, I might purchase the setup. Definitely do not like the $150 price tag though.

What ever happened with that whole thing on the Peter Molynoux (was it him?) game/demo of the child that was sentient. Then it talked about how you could draw something on paper and hold it up to the camera and it would create a model of that object?

Something like that + Scribblenauts, or like a trading card game + Virtual creation of the creatures, etc, would be pretty sweet. But other then those possibilities I have 0 interest, which is why I think the xbox guys estimate (in game informer) of 11.2 million sold in the holiday season will probably fall short.

No chance that ever comes out. Journalists at E3 all said it was only shown behind closed doors and it was all smoke and mirrors bullshit.

Not to mention it's fucking Molyneux. Hes' the king of "promising" shit that never comes to fruition. Hell, there was supposed to be Kinect support in Fable 3. LOL.

I do think MS did say the Milo thing was officially canned but not sure.
