A look back and a look ahead
A look back and a look ahead
Where did it all begin?
Summer 2010
The summer of 2010 saw both participants on separate consoles. I was on the Xbox 360 while Cowboys was on the PS3. There we were, standing in line at the midnight release when we began talking about doing a dynasty together. The line was long, and the people next to us retarded, so we went off into our own little world. We hyped it up, as we so often do with spur of the moment ideas, as a fantastic plan that could potentially be our greatest gaming feat thus far. Of course, we talked about completing a full 30 season dynasty. Now, that was never a realistic goal but we continued to talk about it and get more and more excited for the next 20 or so minutes until we each received our separate copies. A little after midnight, we left our local Gamestop and headed our separate ways to play our new game.
The talks continued the following day and we decided to begin a dynasty on the PS3. We both decided it would be for the best if we took the two worst teams in the game and tried to bring them to glory. I chose UAB while Cowboys chose North Texas.
I went over to Cowboy's house to play our dynasty. We routinely pulled off 24 hour days of straight gaming that included lots of energy drinks, junk food, and irrational thoughts from the host's mother. Everything was going great and we were mowing down seasons. Then, "Switchgate 2010" happened. This was an awful time for our dynasty and one that still confuses me. Let me break it down.
We had been playing for a good couple of hours. We never enabled the auto-save feature because it was horrible and takes too god damn long. I got up to turn on/off the light and hit the switch. Apparently, whoever wired Cowboy's house was a fucking idiot and instead of the light switch being attached to, you know, a light it acted as an on/off switch for the TV and the outlets behind the TV. Everything shut down and we lost hours of gaming time that we had to replay. We stood there in disbelief and I immediately went into a defensive mode and questioned the validity of the electrician. There was nothing we could do besides replay all the games that we just lost. After Switchgate, we vowed to never try turning any lights on or off again until after we knew the game was saved.
We persevered through Switchgate and got through about 5 seasons before he had to go back up to Uconn and end our 2010 dynasty. However, we vowed that next year would be better.
Summer 2011
The next year flew by and before we knew it July was already here. A big change occurred in the beginning of 2011. My Xbox broke, again, and I made the jump to PS3. What this meant was that instead of doing a dynasty where we both had to be there in order to play games, an online dynasty was a better option.
The two worst teams in the game this year were Akron (My team) and Eastern Michigan (Cowboys). Something happened in the first season that I didn’t even know was possible. We both got off to horrible starts and ended the year we awful records. I think I finished with 3 wins and Cowboys had 1 or 2. With the new Coaching Carousel, I retained my job but Cowboys was fired. This meant we had to restart the game or else risk our whole dynasty being thrown off. Luckily, we had just saved it (thank you auto-save) and went into the off-season again. This time Cowboys was able to keep his job and was never at risk to lose it again.
NCAA 12 treated us like pieces of shit. We went through 10 seasons before calling it quits and it was 10 seasons filled was screw job after screw job. Besides Cowboys almost being fired after season 1, I was screwed out of the national championship game twice. Once, I finished 3rd in the polls and the other time Illinois fucked me. The Illinois game was back and forth and it came down to one play. I was up 4 with only a few seconds left and Illinois had the ball at midfield. I played a prevent defense and the Illinois QB, while getting smacked, threw up a hailmary into the end zone. My defenders were in great position and went to swat it down. The ball went THROUGH my defender and into the hands of an Illinois’ receiver in the end zone for the game winning touchdown. At the time I was #1 in the polls and that loss knocked me out of the top 10. I finished the season at 11-1 and finished top 5 in the polls. Both Cowboys and I were only able to compile a few conference championships and one national championship over the 10 seasons that we played.
Summer 2012
Currently we are waiting for the PS3 rosters from OS to be complete and then we are going to dive into our dynasty. I will be the coach of UMASS while Cowboys coaches UTSA. NCAA 13 will be played in our own apartment, on our own 55’’ TV, with our own surround sound. I can safely say we are both looking forward to the shenanigans that NCAA 13 will bring us.
