Madden 25 "Post-Release" Impressions

Honestly.. I was ready for the physics engine to suck, it's being fine tuned for next gen.

But the fucking menu lag is ridiculous.

I've found I dread any time in owner mode where I have to travel 3-4 screens to do some team management. It takes me a while just to get over there, then when you finish doing something (Signing a FA for example) you get put back on the home screen when you exit and have to travel over there to reset your depth chart. If the menu lag is taken out the game would be better. Definitely one of, if not the best madden to come out on next gen in terms of gameplay. Not that it's saying much.

My biggest problem is the omission of the coordinator cam from NCAA. I'm having a hard time adjusting my eyes. The coordinator cam is one of the best angle/view points I've ever seen on a football game. Why is it not in Madden?

I started playing last night.

The foot planting is legit. When I say legit I don't mean the feature is great or perfect, but it's functional. It's something of substance, not flash, that Madden has needed for a while. You can now almost headfake because of the change in direction. The jukes are cleaner, they actually work now, and the precision modifier brings a timing aspect to the game which reminds me a lot of 2K's charge system (although not as brilliant :smug: ). Ball carriers using their hands to get off of lineman is great, I wish defenders could reach, but this is EA and they compartmentalize football, so maybe next gen. I really liked the skills trainer. This was an area the game has pretty much lacked for the entire generation with these consoles. This helped me understand better the precision passing and trajectories. It was something of substance, not flash, that had a true functional purpose and made me better understand their game. I think the stamina system is great, I played a game with the Vikings last night and my opponent got a lot of AP in the first 3 quarters but by the 4th AP was gassed and I had to rely on Toby. It brings a deeper strategic aspect to the game and I suspect that 3rd down RB's are actually going to become a little more important, which is awesome.

On the flip side, It's still the same game when it's all said and done. The AI will still force plays, there will be moments where your players will be useless when the AI wants a play to happen. Defenders will still do "fail" animations even though they don't make sense. The player movement will lie to you almost because even when you think it's solid and you know how guys are going to move, the AI will warp, twist, turbo, or whatever else it has to do to move a player into position to make a play, irregardless of CPU or Human team control. Last night I threw a post corner route that got picked off and almost returned for a TD, it was annoying because when my WR was selling his post move, the DB bit on it. His body was positioned to defend the post, he was looking for the post, so when my WR planted his feet and I began to gear up to throw I figured this pass would be completed. Instead the DB's feet stuck in the ground as soon as I released the ball and he spun like he was standing on a turntable to intercept my pass. When I see things like this it makes me feel that player movement is more cosmetic then substantial.

Overall though I picked this game up for the franchise elements and Clutch Playerz. I know what kind of gameplay I can expect from EA so what will deem this game a success in my eyes is how functional the online franchises are.

anybody notice these things??:

* pre-snap, audible, hot route window pops up flickering, with delayed response time with selection(s)....due to lag most likely.

* in a hurry huddle, on offense or defense: notice how slow it gets when trying to scroll through the different formations?? it feels like it gonna stall, lol. this is result of lag.....i am sure

its not just the menus :facepalm:

but thats just really annoying since it effects game play.

It does for me.

It only works when the clock is running though. If the clock is stopped there's no accelerated clock. Also if you're inside of 2 minutes of either half there's no accelerated clock.

The defense in this game is really starting to annoy me. The lack of DE pressure just allows numbnuts to roll out and wait for someone to get open. :rage:

Only thing bothering me so far is User defense. Struggling getting any stops at all, guys getting wide wide open.

For some reason whenever I import my face into the game, my eyes are pure white (creepy indeed). At least in the edit player screen, I haven't bothered to check myself in-game...although I have a dark visor so it wouldn't be that noticeable even if they were still white.

I didn't get a chance to look at it in game yet. Been too busy but, the rest of this afternoon is going to be owned by Madden.
