McNabb Will Ask Washington For Release

After the season, McNabb is planning to meet with the Redskins and ask them for his release. McNabb wants to be in a position where he can pick the place to finish his career, not have it dictated to him as was the case last season when Philadelphia traded him to Washington.

It's highly unlikely the Redskins initially would release McNabb, not when they believe he still has some trade value. Washington would want to recoup as much as possible for the player whom they surrendered second- and fourth-round picks.

What will test McNabb's trade value is the $10 million option bonus in his contract that another team might have to pay. Yet there are any number of teams -- Minnesota, Seattle, San Francisco, Carolina, Tennessee and Miami -- with significant quarterback questions looming for 2011.

After the (classless isn't the right word) way the Shanny boys have treated him, I'm expecting them to decline his request and to trade him elsewhere at some point in the off season.

People act as if McNabb is the first guy to get benched. He underperformed, and lost his job. He isn't owed special treatment because he's a veteran, or a former pro bowler, or a former SB QB, or whatever. And if Washington chooses to trade him, and get something in return for him, good for them.

If McNabb had played up to expectations, he wouldnt be in this position. Tough shit.

Double lol @ all these losses "not being McNabbs fault." Last I checked, Ryan Torain is rushing for 150 yards in a half and the defense is only giving up 17 points and we are still losing. Not saying it's 100% his fault, but he needs to take his fair share of the blame. He has thrown 15 interceptions this year in 12 games.


Triple lol @ releasing McNabb being the "decent thing to do." Why should the Redskins release him when they can certainly get something from him in a trade? When the hell did the Redskins start owing McNabb anything?


McNabb has played like shit all year. Redskins wanted to try a change and all of the sudden it's a "big deal" because they benched McNabb. This media battle is as much McNabbs fault as it is the Shanahans. His agent is talking to the media more than the Shanahans are.

I think I'd take him in Tennessee next season if the opportunity presented itself. He'd have a decent pass blocking line with Michael Roos having the off-season to get healthy, explosive playmakers that can be the focus of the offense (CJ and Britt) and an actual receiver corps (I still don't know why Anthony Armstrong is a starting WR) that fits McNabb's best attribute, which is the deep ball. Plus, if we don't keep Vince in Tennessee, I don't like any of the quarterbacks in the draft really besides Luck (who I think is staying another year) and Pat Devlin (who is a mid-round guy so he's not someone you can throw to the wolves right away) so grabbing someone like McNabb for a year or two might be the best option.
