Most unbeatable sports record

This is here and not in "other sport" because it might actually get seen here lol

So which record do you think is the most unbeatable? I've included a write in slot because I know very little about basketball or hockey.

I also haven't included anything too bizarre or esoteric (specifically Sammy Baugh's 4TD pass / 4 Defensive INT game).

Dimaggio's 56 consecutive games with a hit.

Ripken's consecutive games played streak will never ever be broken because of the different era.

Favre's might be broken by Peyton Manning by the end of his career.

My post from the Favre thread:

-Cy Young 511 wins. I'd be shocked if anyone gets within 100.

-Cy Young 749 complete games. Will never be broken or even remotely approached.

-Walter Johnson 110 shutouts. Warren Spahn came the closest in the last 50 years or so. He had 63.

-Johnny Vander Meer 2 consecutive no hitters. Nobody is throwing 3 in a row.

-Sam Crawford 309 triples. Of modern players, Stan Musial came the closest with 177. Active leader is Carl Crawford, who at 28 years of age would need to average nearly 20 triples per season and play until he is 40 to break the record. Crawford's career high is 19.

I think the Dimaggio hit streak, Ripken, and Favre are entirely breakable and very likely to go down at some point.

I voted for DiMaggio's hit streak, although Ripken's is probably tougher to overcome. Although I could see the right player possibly taking a run at Ripken. It was basically a tie for me, but I think DiMaggio's hit streak is just incredible.

Of course all those early 20th century records are going to remain unbeaten. Those are just freaky numbers, especially in modern context.

As for Ripken's record, I don't see it being broken in our lifetime. Adrian Gonzalez became the active leader in 2009 with 275 consecutive games played...which has since ended. Fielder was then the leading guy with 273, but he missed one game last year. No clue who's the leader heading into 2011.

Nobody is getting to 2,632.

I dunno about the Hit streak, there's nothing to stop a team IBBing a guy 4 or 5 times out of spite to stop him beating it.

I dunno about the Hit streak, there's nothing to stop a team IBBing a guy 4 or 5 times out of spite to stop him beating it.

In that scenerio, the batter would not have recorded an official AB and the streak would continue.

Also, I don't think an opposing team would pull something so unsportsmanlike anyway.

Am I the only one not particularly impressed by the Ripken streak? I think if we get a stubborn enough superstar who was lucky enough to avoid major injury, that the record can go down. I don't view it as unreachable. Ripken just did it, in the modern era, so why can't someone go one game longer?

That record is more a product of Ripken being bigger than his managers, and calling his own shots.

Am I the only one not particularly impressed by the Ripken streak? I think if we get a stubborn enough superstar who was lucky enough to avoid major injury, that the record can go down. I don't view it as unreachable. Ripken just did it, in the modern era, so why can't someone go one game longer?

That record is more a product of Ripken being bigger than his managers, and calling his own shots.

He also had the benefit of extra-special coffee that guys today can no longer use.

Favre's streak will not be broken, at least by a QB. In addition to the leagues new concussion rules for players (you know Favre probably shook off a dozen or more during the streak), each year athletes get stronger, faster and blitz packages get better. Peyton would have to make it until almost the end of the 2016 season. Don't see it happening.

The non-football streaks are impressive in their own right but none of those guys had to play with 11 guys trying to mash them into the ground every play. I doubt the Dimaggio streak or Cy Young records will be broken but those aren't iron man streaks.

If anyone thinks someone will score 215 points in a season they are stupid. Gretzky's 2857 pts are nearly 1000 more than Messier's. His 1963 assists are 700 more than anyone else

Around the time a team is going to refuse to play any of their games to keep a consecutive games streak alive?

And Unitas' 47 straight games with a touchdown probably won't be broken. Especially if they move to an 18 game schedule. The sort of QB's who could do it are on the sort of the teams who would probably start resting players in those final two extra weeks.
