National Championship: #1 Alabama vs. #2 Texas

Would have been an interesting game if McCoy was healthy. Does Saban handcuff McElroy the same way, how does Bama defend McElroy if they ended up having trouble with his backup. Lot's of unanswered questions. I was rooting for Bama and they should enjoy it but a lot about this game will leave many people with an empty feeling or a feeling that things didn't really get resolved.

I was rooting for Alabama until Colt McCoy went down because I liked the idea of the freshman backup mounting a comeback against the number 1 team in the nation in the national championship.

That's how I felt. I had no real vested interest in the game and once McCoy went out, I wanted to see the freshman do well. If his receivers make some catches early on and instilled more confidence in him, the game could have been completely different. Gutsy performance either way.

Other than that, the game was pretty terrible. Sloppy playcalling and sloppy execution by both teams.

I also legitimately felt bad for McCoy after seeing his post game interview. Didn't know he had a dead arm. I thought it was just a sprain or something like that.

That one Texas receiver dropped everything thrown to him.

Then that Shipley kid and the speed receiver do all the work. The Frosh played well besides the fumble and the two late INTs. For a kid who played his first real game in the National Championship against Bama, he did good.

Man it doesnt even feel like Bama won...ESPN be talkin about Colt and the rise of garrett Gilbert. I was rooting for Bama but now its like bleh, how i wish there was a plus 1 so we could see em take on Boise for all the marbles.

But i tell you what, Gilbert is gonna be good. real good. Which sucks cause Oklahoma State and Texas play in the same division. then you have Landry Jones coming back, Robert Griffin coming back, the Aggies prolly will get better. Shit is gonna be rough for the near future :/

I was not impressed with Shipley. Not after the hype I've heard of him. He looked sluggish out of cuts and was a bit sloppy on his routes. I'm not sure about his hands either. Great college player who will not translate to the NFL, imho.

They compared him to Welker during the game, and it was after he ran a terrible route right into a defender and only because he was playing against college level defenders did he come open on that play. I saw a lot of this.

Now, his route running can improve, but I think he lacks the quickness... specifically the acceleration out of cuts... to be a great slot receiver in the NFL. I could see him being an Arnaz Battle... a tough possession receiver... if he improves his route running, but he's no Welker.

But hey, I'm not here to make excuses...what's done is done. Congrats to Alabama on winning the national title game. Naturally, the game was awful for me without McCoy in there. I feel so cheated, and I'm sure he does too.

Dear Texas defense: Amazing job against the Crimson Tide. McElroy was on his ass all night long, and you really kept us in the game despite our true freshman quarterback putting us in a bind a few times.

Not sure I'd say that just because I'm not sure how Alabama adjusted their gameplan once McCoy went down. Obviously the game woul dhave been much different with McCoy in but I'm not going to assume Alabama would have held to the same gameplan they had for Gilbert being the QB as they did with McCoy being the QB. Especially offensively.

Great game. Gilbert looks like he's gonna be a star, in the second half he played better than Ryan Mallett did against Alabama.

I don't know if it's the first time you've seen Shipley but the dude has blazing speed, quickness, and agility. His route running and hands can get better but I think he's going to be a good slot receiver, definitely comparable to Welker and Stokley if he's in the right offense.

That was a pretty crazy game, you couldn't help but feel bad about Colt's injury. That had to be devastating for him. The Longhorns' 1st half was absolute hideous after Gilbert came on to replace Colt, but what would you honestly expect from a freshman with so little experience who's taken 0 important snaps prior to this game, against the Alabama defense.

The 2nd half turnaround was absolutely shocking, and we watched Gilbert grow up before our very eyes. He's going to be huge for the Longhorns now that he'll be taking over for Colt.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The University of Alabama is going to display its new national championship football trophy at a place where most anyone can see it: Walmart.

The school says the Coaches' Trophy will be on display at a Walmart Supercenter in Tuscaloosa on Saturday and another Walmart store in Gardendale on Sunday.

Fans will be able to get their picture taken with the actual Coaches' Trophy that was presented after the BCS win over Texas. The $30,000 trophy is topped with a football made of Waterford Crystal.

The school will permanently display the trophy on campus. The Walmart stops are part of a sponsorship deal.

As far as Shipley, his route running on a couple were indeed sloppy. But his route on Bama's best corner for a TD was anything but sloppy. He ate Javier Arenas up IMO.

Bama was playing a 3-2-6... one DE is playing a 5-tech on the far side, the DT is lined up in a 1-tech and the DT on the near side is lined up in a 3-tech, with an OLB showing blitz off the edge and McClain hinting up in the A-gap.

There is no threat to blitz off the other side, and Bama even showed this blitz coming from off the edge for at least two seconds at the line.

This is why they need to move the National Championship game and other BCS bowls to either Friday and/or Saturday Nights. More people will stay up late those nights to watch the entire game, you can increase ad revenue during those times by being able to charge the same rate at later time slots and you'd get even higher ratings IMO.
