Can someone give me a quick rundown of the best modes in this game?

Is the single player career any good? My standard here is RTTS on MLB The Show.

Is franchise mode any good or does the CPU do dumb shit?

Is online play fun or is it laggy and full of glitchers?



Historically speaking, that is. I've never owned this game.

Barely started My Player, but so far its like WAY better than last year. It's gonna be sick.
Association mode will be the same as 2k11, and it was pretty good. That's my main mode.
Online play is still up in the air.

Historically speaking, that is. I've never owned this game.

Last year, online sucked because there was no stats/W-L records/etc visible in the lobby, so there was no way to filter opponents or avoid obvious cheesers. Guys would just court hang if they fell behind or run college esque full court press the entire game.

The Association mode (franchise) was solid last year. It's a stat whores dream. Every statistic under the sun, including all of the new goofy advanced stats. Very, very deep.

You know what, I agree that basketball advanced stats are largely goofy.

How about THEM apples!?

Win Shares isn't bad and +/- is good to track whole lineups effectiveness but on a single player level it's very difficult for advanced stats to help out in such a team driven game like basketball. PER isn't too bad.

And yet when I play this game, I probably spend more time looking at them then I do playing.

They are all really interesting I'm just not sure what sort of real world use they have. I wouldn't base a team off finding secondary guys with the best +/- numbers because then Delonte West (LeBron-era) would be the cornerstone of my bench.

It's best effectiveness is creating ideal lineups. 82games.com does really awesome breakdowns of each teams primary on the floor lineups and their +/- numbers. That can show you how an individual player either contributes positively or negatively. You just can't extract an individual player in basketball, the game is much more complex then that.

Just started with an association with the Lakers. Love the intros before the games.

One thing though, its gonna take a while for me to get used to seeing Mike Brown as the head coach of LA...

Just finished my first game vs. the CPU. Hawks v. Magic. I lost 61-44 on default difficulty level with 7 minute quarters. What is a good quarter length for realistic scoring stats?

Thought the gameplay played pretty well though. Midrange was there, and I didn't think outside shooting was outrageous or anything. I still need to master the controls and stop wasting possessions by stutter stepping 20 feet from the basket.

All in all though I love the gameplay so far. Game feels fluid. I think rebounding is a little too skewed to the defense out of the box. Didn't see any team get many second chance points.

Made "My Player" in the mold of Otis Thorpe. A 19yr old PF/C from Texas A&M....6'10 225 Athletic. Drafted #13 by the Phoenix Suns. In 7 games he's averaging 3.2 p/g & ~3.5 reb/g. Picked #42 (a play on Thorpe's Kings #24).

Played the best game, Stockton challenge it was even 64-64, i have the ball and do the pick and roll with malone and get an easy layup. 5 seconds left and they dribble it up and toss an alley for shaq and he absolutely dominates my center. 66-66, then i got dominated in OT. Overall amazing game from start to finish can't wait to play more

Really liking My Player so far. I made a 6'7 220 lb. "athletic" small forward and got drafted 21st overall by the Blazers. I like being a SF because I get to play the 2 and 4 also. I only get about 11 minutes per game at the moment but I've started to find my niche on the team as the energy guy off the bench.

Last game was awesome, it was tied 80-80 with :6 on the clock and I hit the midrange jumper to give us the win.

I made a 6'4, 220 pound PG. Got drafted 10th by the Bucks. Only been able to play one game though..

I wish 2k could put a little note on the Online menu to tell people not to make pregame adjustments so the game won't DC. Grr.
