Spurs Rest 4 Starters, Stern Not Happy

And I was talking about NBA fans in general. I, as an NBA fan, found the game a lot more intriguing than I would've if all four guys played. Twitter was blowing up. A "ragtag" team almost pulled off a huge upset against the champs. You'd think Stern would be loving this

EDIT: And not many people traveling from San Antonio that have never seen Tim Duncan play were at this game, I guarantee.

Part of you finding it interesting is that you are an NBA fan as a whole and because the game was close. If the Heat had a 20 point lead after the first quarter it wouldn't of been interesting to anyone. However, most people who attend and watch showcase NBA games aren't hardcore NBA fans, but rather the types of people that want to watch stars play against stars.

From the Spurs point of view....Stern hates San Antonio. He hates that they are so successful and that the TV ratings suck when they are in the finals. He hates that the team isn't flashy and doesn't sell jerseys outside of the San Antonio market. The league office has done subtle BS like scheduling the Spurs to play back to back road trips with the critical conference game or marquee match up coming on the last game for years (in this case it was the 2nd of back to back nights on the road). Pop is looking at his schedule as sees more of Stern's BS to make the bigger market team that is selling jersey's look good and that he has a home match up against a powerful conference rival on Saturday night and gave the finger to the league for this latest round of scheduling BS and we love him for that around here. The Heat has played one game (and it was at home) since Thanksgiving. The Spurs had been on the road playing back to backs for a week. Fuck Stern.

If you guys had been living here the past 10 years, you would know where I am coming from having witnessed Stern's fingerprints on BS like unfavorable scheduling match ups. It's not a coincidence that the Spurs played on the road for a week with multiple back to backs and the Heat had played one home game in the past week going into last nights nationally televised game.

You guys have no problem believing Stern didn't manipulate the Hornets lottery pick going into the season but don't think he would manipulate a schedule favorably for his pet teams that are selling jerseys for him?

Knicks have multiple instances of playing 4 games in 5 days and 4 in 6 days.

It's not a conspiracy against San Antonio, it's just dumb overall scheduling. The Knicks played in SA earlier then an ESPN game the next night in Memphis. Similar crap happens next week against CHA and the Heat.

Its not an overarcing issue. Its simply a personal matter between Popovich vs. Stern. They are both at fault. Popovich is more to blame in this current instance...for those of you who actually buy Popovich's rationale, would you also be in favor of Popovich resting his entire team and forfeiting the game? Stern is at fault because he's NEVER upheld the competivive integrity of the league...in fact, he's been the biggest culprit against it. Its funny that he would be upset about one regular season NBA game, yet allowed the LA Clippers to languish for decades, letting Elgin Baylor be coach/GM/team president all at the same time. If you are going to allow a team not to have a GM or President, then you can't get upset at this.

That's your opinion. Spurs fans just know what they see when watching the games and looking at the schedule. Tim Donaghy's book goes into great detail about how the orders came down from the league office on how certain games needed to turn out. The NBA is just a step above professional wrestling, the only difference is that the athletes are not in on the fix.

Also want to point out that during their title runs, the Spurs Bruce Bowen was allowed to strangle opposing players without getting a whistle, while if Parker and Ginobelli flailed their arms, they were at the line. Very annoying team to watch. Not one of the more memorable sports champions.

Side note, if the Spurs actually beat Miami (it was a close game), does Stern threaten sanctions against the Spurs?
