Would you prefer nicknames or on-uniform ads?

Or, like Euro soccer, both? "Shabazz" on back of a jersey, and a Target logo on the front.

For some reason, ads wouldn't bother me in the NBA as much as they would MLB or NFL.

CondomDepot.com on a Yankees or Packers uniform would make me cringe more than the Memphis Grizzlies or Charlotte Bobcats.

I guess that's not fair, though. The Celtics are a better comparison, but even then while I would prefer to never see ads, for some reason the idea doesn't offend me as much if it's the NBA.

I think a big reason why is because people identify players in the NBA by what the actual player looks like, his face, his haircut, etc. and not as much the jersey. In other sports because the players are more times than not covered in equipment, people tend to identify more by number/jersey.

Not sure if that's why, just my theory.

And let's be honest, CondomDepot.com would be a bad product to advertise to the NBA audience using NBA players.

Also PINK month is coming in the NFL, something else that drives me nuts, and as we've beaten to death, one week would suffice if they want to do the whole awareness deal. A month is overkill, and it does actually bother me and hurt my enjoyment of the games to some extent because it's so overdone.

This nickname thing though, like Fed said, it's just...tacky. It doesn't quite cross a line, but it walks one. It's something i'd rather not see.

Not to mention, not a single cent of that goes towards actual Cancer research.

Also, I too don't know why more teams haven't adopted the Ads on Jersey revenue? I doubt it makes much difference in something like the WNBA but, it is a sponsorship deal and it probably saves teams money in the long run. I mean the logo can still be on the shorts, and the team logo still on the court. It wouldn't make them any less of say the Cleveland Cavaliers with a Cleveland Clinic ad pasted on the front or, Quicken Loans for example. Danny boy needs more money to entice LeBron :thumbsup:

In the States, Jerseys are the identity of the franchise...its their own walking and playing billboard. I can't see them cluttering up their own billboard space with other companies that are already advertised all over the damn building.
