Heat capture J.R. Smith, Anthony Parker, and Mark Blount in Free Agency
The Heat may not of had the flashiest free agent signings, but they probably had one of the most productive ones. They add much needed depth in the back court, and being back a veteren leader for this team.
They signed J.R. Smith at cusp of the MLE with a player option for next season. The 25 year old Smith, averaged 14 points off the Nuggets bench last season shooting practically 50% from the field. J.R. gives exactly what the Heat need off the bench, energy, instant offense, and what nearly everyone else on the bench has, potential. Kids only 25, can still develop his defense and he'll be a great player. Look for him to get good minutes off the bench for the Heat, around the same time as Stephen Curry and Sean Williams are getting.
Anthony Parker will be leaving Toronto, the place where he was learn of, and will be coming down to South Beach. The sharpshooter from Bradley agreed to a 1 year, 800k deal. This was great for the Heat, as they had little under 1M left to spend on free agents. His shooting touch should definitley let this guy see some time. He isn't expected to get major minutes, be he will play every game, and probably be a mentor for J.R. Smith, DerMarr Allen, and Omri Casspi.
The last signing was bringing back Mark Blount for his fifth season in Miami. Given a league minimum contract, Mark is not here to get playing time. He is here to help JaVale McGee, and come in when called upon and rebound and hit the occasional jump shot. He's a great steal for a league minimum contract.
