My wife pays $600 a month in student loan debt. I'm sure she would have loved to have been "exploited" in college by playing a sport to not have that issue.....

Why not? I got paid 7.50 an hour to make a shitty TV show twice a week. I mostly sat on the couch next to my classroom and dicked around. If I can do that and get paid, these guys should be getting compensated for all the time they spend.

The Pac-10 -- soon to officially become the Pac-12 -- has agreed to a 12-year television contract with ESPN and Fox that will more than triple its media rights fees and be the most valuable for any conference in college sports.

The contract, which will begin with the 2012-13 season, will be worth more than $225 million per year -- or $2.7 billion over the life of the deal, Sports Business Daily and The Associated Press reported on Tuesday.

ESPN is playing Texas $300 million over the next 20 years for the privilege of distributing the network.

SEC Commissioner Mike Slive Friday announced that the conference "will distribute about $209.0 million this year -- an average of $17.3 million to each school," according to Scott Hotard of the Baton Rouge ADVOCATE. That figure is up 57.7% from '09, when schools divided about $132.5M. This year's revenue was "the first to reflect the financial benefits" of the SEC's "lucrative 15-year contracts with CBS and ESPN." Hotard noted a difference of $65.6M "in TV provided most" of the record $66.5M revenue increase. The SEC this year "generated $109.5 million from football television and $30 million from basketball television"

Point of reference. A year at ND costs over 40k a year. How many people here make more than that a year?

How many people at Microsoft, a company that makes shit tons of money, make at that or less than that? I don't get people's outrage/shock that an organization that makes that much money doesn't "pay" people more. Fuck it. These guys are getting by with out having to pay back over 100K over the course of 4 years and have the chance to get degrees that will net them incredibly solid incomes and network with people all over that can help them post graduation. Pardon me if I could give a shit whether Tommy Rees makes minimum wage from the NCAA

Eh, I don't know about that. Strikes are pretty rare these days. People are too apathetic for that shit.
