I agree. People act as if the Eagles were on the path to 5-11 with Kolb, when in fact they weren't even playing badly. I'm not saying they aren't better off with Vick, because they are, or that Vick isn't having a great year, because he is. But he didn't "save" the team.
The Eagles were mediocre with Kolb. They were getting their ass kicked 21-3 by the Packers and Vick came in an almost saved the day. Kolb blew dick against the Redskins when Vick got hurt, he was servicable at best against the Titans. That's the perfect word for Kolb right now: serviceable.
I wish he was starting for the Eagles. Then the Giants wouldn't be worrying about a playoff spot.
All these arguments about what the Eagles would be doing w/o Vick or the Pats w/o Brady are stupid as hell. First it's completely hypothetical so you have no way of knowing or proving anything. Second it's pretty obvious that this isn't the criteria people use to choose who gets the award. They usually just do something like hand it to one of the best players on one of the best teams.
I swear everytime an MVP discussion comes up people want to argue back and forth about this and I don't get it. It's not about what the Eagles would be doing without Vick, its about what they have done with him.
I absolutely agree with the bolded.
That said, I just believe that Michael Vick is more valuable to the Eagles than Brady is to the Patriots. He is the best player on that team and is the reason why that offense has reached the level of explosiveness that it has. He goes down the field more, takes more chances, and has had more remarkable individual games than Brady this year.
Brady's have a great season, no doubt, but what's so special about it? Sure, at the moment, he's thrown like 300+ passes with no INTs, but that's going to happen when you play in the system that he plays in. I guess I'm just more in favor of a quarterback who will take chance and goes an wins me a game than smart and safe. I'm pretty sure Vick averages more yards per game (probably in just passing yards alone) and is more heavily relied on to win the game than Brady is.
i dont know nashte you falcons homer you... how about desean jackson? i dont recall vick being the one that returned a muffed punt for td... do you?
I don't recall Desean Jackson having to make up 21 points with 7 minutes in the fourth either.
I don't understand the rational in discrediting Vick because he has "talent" around him while making it seem as if Brady is playing with a group of guys from the YMCA. At the end of the day Vick is being successful with what he has to work with. I'm not sure what people have been watching, but much of what Vick does goes far beyond who he's playing with and more on him simply making plays. If anyone is an example of an MVP this year it's Vick.
Having said that Brady is surrounded by talent as well and much like Vick it's young talent. However, Brady has also been on the tear as of late......it seems as if he's to use a basketball term....in the zone. I've seen Brady rip several elite defenses apart, but lets not make it seem as if he's doing it all alone. Much like Vick he's making the big play when his team needs it most.
IMO if there is a year when two guys deserve the MVP its this year, because neither player while having great years having separated themselves from each other.
Bolded is true, especially the last part even though I still favor Vick to win.
Better Stats - Tom Brady
More Wins - Tom Brady
Its pretty easy.
Tell 1987 Jerry Rice that. Granted, 1987 was an awkward strike season but Rice caught 22 TDs for a 13-2 Niners team. Elway only threw 19 TDs for a 10-5-1 Broncos team.
Guess the MVP.
