They need to do this. The athletes have changed, the game is faster. The NHL is even exploring their rink sizes as well but it's more challenging for them. You have to compensate for the changes in the people who play the game and surely a wider field is better than the terrible penalties and rule changes they are going with so far. Nobody likes that shit, a wider field doesn't change what football is however.


I don't know why you'd say don't be like the CFL, has you've adopted our rules over the years. Your game is shifting in a wide open spread passing game, which has been the CFL for decades. You took the 2pt rule into play, which you had before then dropped, but we've always had it. You had Kaep/Wilson playing for the Super Bowl, they are the CFL mold of a QB eh? Everyone seems to enjoy the fuck outta these players, but lets be Anti Canada for the sake of being Anti Canada.

The NFL has trended towards the way the CFL has always been played over the past 10-15 years, whether you want to admit it or not.

We took the 2 pt rule from the USFL and I don't want every team running a spread offense. I want offensive diversity. I want to see teams still run run first offenses.

The odd part is the NFL game is now way more offensive than the CFL game. The wide field hasn't stopped the CFL from becoming a more defensive league (why? I don't really know).

The NFL defences would adjust to the wider, bigger fields.

Regardless of field size, the rule changes will continue to make the NFL more offence-friendly.

What some of you seem to be missing, is all of these seemingly little changes over a short period of time are changing the fabric of the game. The evolution is being sped up to the point that the game is a very different game than was being played as little as 10 or 12 years ago.

Football and the NFL in particular is ass backwards.
Player safety starts at the youth levels. If anyone should be making changes and adopting weird ass rules its the peewee-collegiate level. Players going into the NFL have already accumulated a decades worth of head smashing and are signing lucrative contracts and union benefits ,they know the risks.
If the higher ups at every level of the game are sitting on there hands waiting for a shitcock like Goodell to lead the way they might as well shoot themselves in the chest and donate there brains to retard research now.

Imagine if the NFL and CFL combined..
Combine the CFL field and special teams rules with the NFL set of downs and no yard-off the ball and you have the perfect football league. 40 teams, 20 battle it out for playoff seeding with a 16 game season with 2 pre-season games. NFL (North American Football League).

There is a new NCAA rule proposal up for vote that would eject defensive players for "targeting" defenseless receivers. Which of course means every team will run out of safeties by halftime.

In the past five years there have been way more passing yards per game in the NFL on the smaller field, than the CFL on the bigger field.

Yes, NFL players are way more talented, but that goes for the D too.

IMO, NFL defences would adjust to the bigger field quickly enough.

And as for you saying player safety wouldn't be improved ... the statistics absolutely say otherwise.

I agree it's a very radical change to the game and I completely understand why many are against it ... but I've always wondered how cool the NFL game would be on CFL-size fields.

Be that as it may its short sighted to think that a larger field wont lead to a lot more passing yards in a league where defenders are already at a disadvantage. Those sideline toe tap/force out plays will be limited, DBs will have to cover longer and the QBs will have a larger margin for error with so much field having to be covered. Those top end QBs will have a field day. No Pun.
