Nope 3pm has been like that for as long as I remember.

Trades can still happen after 3pm, as long as they've been in talks prior to 3pm.

No, it was two deals, but it still worked out that way. You could simpyl just say
LA sent O'sullivan to Edmonton
Edmonton sent Cole to Carolina
Carolina sent Williams to LA

Either way, Cole is back in Carolina already.

TSN has something that says Leafs Acquire Olaf Kolzig, Jamie Neward, Andy Rogers and a 4th Round pick from Tampa for Richard Petiot.
 
The leafs deal is a pure grease job in order to get an extra pick. Olaf is done, might retire, and Neward is out as well, so basically what it is is that Toronto is taking on 500K in salary in exchange for a 4th round pick.

Thing is, they have no idea if it will actually go through or not, because it is a legal matter. You can't trade money for players, and basically that is what is going on. Basically the lightning gave Toronto a draft pick for $500K, and the players are just there to make it look like a hockey deal.
