He has definitely underachieved so far in the NFL, but I think the Lions can take some blame here.
I also believe the Chicago non-catch has fucked up his psyche (even if it shouldn't).
That loss destroyed Detroit's season.
Frankly, I had them not only covering this week's spread, but also upsetting Minnesota period. But this is a team that's clearly been fucked up mentally by the Chicago loss.

Calvin Johnson may actually be too ego-free to be an elite WR. Apparently, this guy is so ego-free, he used to help ball boys pick up loose balls while he was still a college student.

Receivers need a little ego, a little "gimme the damn ball". Johnson doesn't have that.
Actually, Andre Johnson doesn't have that either, but the Texans don't give him a choice and they give him the damn ball (except today) anyway.

Actually, this is one thing I am serious about. Calvin Johnson is completely overrated. When Martz took over, I wasn't even sure if Johnson was better than Shaun McDonald - as it turned out, at least for that season, he wasn't. He wasn't as smart or the type of route runner needed for Martz's offense.

As for Reggie Wayne - he actually gets open, and runs the correct routes. He can beat people in more ways than one. Calvin Johnson is pretty much the type of guy you toss the ball up, and hope he can jump higher than the guy covering him. Calvin Johnson is a flawed WR with great ability and potential, but I can name a lot of football players that didn't pan out, who had great ability and potential.

Calvin Johnson isn't even a top 10 NFL WR at this point in his career. He's an inconsistent guy, who shows up for one play, and vanishes the rest of the game. We can blame Shaun Hill, and Matt Stafford, I guess - because that's what Detroit fans do. Truth is, Shaun Hill can throw for 300 yards without Calvin Johnson being involved for 95% of the game.. Actually, I think he did that last week, didn't he?

But I guess the defense was focusing on Calvin Johnson, so the other guys were able to get open, eh?

Yeah, let's go with that. Lulz.

Also, I think the Detroit Lions are ranked 11th in passing offense, averaging slightly less yards passing per game than the Houston Texans. But, lulz, I guess Calvin Johnson hasn't gotten that memo yet. He's being outplayed by Danny Amendola. I shouldn't laugh, though, since Amendola is by far the better route runner.

You do realize Shaun Hill threw for 300 yards last week with Johnson getting jack shit because he was double covered and that left Best and Pettigrew with 1 on 1 matchups? That's why they both had monster games. You don't have to catch the damn ball in order to be successful. I'll say it once more, Calvin can be double teamed and still catch the ball, but Detroit decides to not throw it to him. You cant catch passes when they are not thrown your way. They threw the ball to Calvin 8 times vs Minnesota. He had 6 catches, 4 first downs, 1 drop and one overthrow that he still caught out of bounds. They did not throw 1 pass over 20 yards to Calvin yet his biggest strength is the deep ball. That is not his fault, thats the coaching.

Hmmm... I agree with Nuk. You can't be the best player on your team and never break-out. Detroit fans and fans in general talk forever about how Barry did something with nothing. I don't see Calvin doing that. But, who knows, I could be wrong... I see him as the prototypical Moss-type go-get-the-ball/doesn't necessarily run amazing routes receiver... But he doesn't have the go-get-the-ball/gimme-the-damned-ball ego. Such is life.

Fitzgerald I think is overrated. He's being exposed as the Housh type this year, I think. Talked so great about as the better player with the lesser ego. We'll see. Chad > Housh, Boldin > Fitz

Singletary I think is a great coordinator, but like everyone else said, gets too emotional. He's a good coordinator, and that's that.
