Polanco wouldn't be a bad signing, I guess. I am not sold on Beltre whatsoever. Honestly, I was in the keep Pedro camp. Sure his bat is suspect, but if you're asking Pedro Feliz to win a game for you, then you stink. I could do without his guaranteed GIDP.

Polanco 3 year $18 Million.........I like this. Lower the hack happiness in that one spot, and Polanco has the ability to hit 6 spots in the lineup. Leadoff and Clean up are too much to ask. New order most likely...

I don't think Howard can hit anywhere but clean up. I also thing Utley's mentality makes him more flexible on where he can hit from. There is also added protection with Polanco and Utley surrounding Howard. Polanco doesn't KO at all and teams have to make a pitch to Howard now or they will bring up cold blooded Utley

Yea Beltre is actually more rampant at KOs than Polanco or De Rosa. Problem with De Rosa is that he is the oldest one out there, and it would cost us a draft pick and too much money.

Polanco just doesn't KO. I think he has never gone over 50/60 in a season, thats crazy, his OBP is through the frikkin rough and he always moves runners into scoring position. Plus he is great protection for the big bats in the lineup.

Seth has a good point about Smoltz, but if he comes to Philly, he better be ready to be short relief. He's crazy to think that he is a starter anymore.

Polanco is gonna be great hitting 2nd. Great situational hitter, doesn't K, hits for high average.

I'm interested in seeing how he plays 3rd. He was great when he did play there, but he's 34 now, I wonder if he's lost any range. That said, I like this signing.

Our lineup is now a lot more balanced. I'll miss Feliz's glove but I won't miss his horrible bat(though I do appreciate the clutch hits he seemed to give us).

Blanton was our most consistent starter last year. He really carried us for a while while Hamels sucked cock. I don't mind him as a #4 pitcher.

I heard we also signed Victorino to a 3 year deal. I wonder if this means Werth will be gone after this season. I hope not. I hope our long term outfield will be Vic/Werth/Brown.

I could also see them trading Vic after this season to be able to afford Werth. .270/35/100 doesn't come every day. And we def need that from the right side since we have no power hitters from that side outside of him.

Dude thats chump change for a guy who has been as consistent as Blanton. Look at the other pitchers on that list, like the author says except for Lackey, everyone other pitcher hasn't been better than Blanton.

$8 mill for 3 years for a pitcher that starts 30+ games back to back years w/o breaking a sweat, is nothing.

Rube needs to lock up Chooch now, because our farm isn't that deep in catchers and we will need this guy to keep the staff on target especially Headcase Hamels.

Read this up man, breaks down the money owed to each player in 2011. Money was definitely one of two reasons they pulled the Lee trade. I never said it was the only reason.

They just would not have enough money to pay Cliff Lee, who would command a CC Sabathia contract in a year. Maybe they will have enough money for Werth maybe they won't, depends on how much money frees up after this season. And hell they may have to deal him at the trade deadline if he is having another killer season and Rube figures he doesn't have money to pay him. Or they could trade Ibanez after the season, and I am not sure if Moyer's 2011 is a Team option or not.
