In addition to running his 40 in the 4.7-4.8 range at his Pro Day, Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon posted 19 reps of 225 and a 31" vertical.

They're not Gaines Adams or Vernon Gholston numbers, but won't hurt his chances of being a high supplemental pick. Jarmon might have been a first-day selection in 2010 had he not tested positive for a banned substance

The Lions are reportedly among the teams interested in Supplemental Draft prospect Jeremy Jarmon.

Detroit wants help at strong-side end, which would be Jarmon's best position fit at this level. ESPN's John Clayton calls Jarmon a fourth-round prospect.

Chris Cooley says Redskins coach Jim Zorn has promised him he'll score "at least" six touchdowns this season.

Cooley scored just once in 2008, but averaged seven touchdowns a year in his first four seasons. This may also indicate that Zorn plans to throw more around the goal line. That could cut into Clinton Portis' TD opportunities

ESPN's Adam Schefter predicts that Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon will be picked no later than the third round of today's Supplemental Draft.

It's very high for a player coming off a 4.5-sack season, but teams clearly are smitten with Jarmon's athleticism-size combo. The Redskins, Lions, Rams, and Jaguars could all use the pass-rush help. It appears the second most likely player to get drafted today is Kansas State WR/KR Deon Murphy

The 49ers plan to sit out today's Supplemental Draft, according to beat writer Matt Maiocco.

The Vikings and Patriots are also not expected to place bids. The Lions and Redskins seem like the most likely clubs to participate. Bidding teams must give up a draft pick in the same round next year to acquire a player. Maiocco says the 49ers "are not interested in using a 2010 pick on anyone available."

Redskins selected Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon with a third-round pick in the supplemental draft.

The Skins are less concerned than any team with losing future picks, but at least they're getting a pretty good prospect. Jarmon doesn't project as a future double-digit sack guy, but the 20-year-old is built to stop the run and will probably add 10-20 pounds to his frame as he develops. He'll make it harder for declining vets Renaldo Wynn and Phillip Daniels to make the team.

The Redskins' selection of Jeremy Jarmon in the supplemental draft makes it more likely that Brian Orakpo will stay at linebacker in the future.

Either that, or Orakpo will move to right end in 2010 and Andre Carter will be released. The Skins likely view Jarmon as their strong-side end of the future. If Orakpo stays at linebacker, however, his IDP stock will suffer.

According to NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Eagles, Bucs, Saints, Lions and Patriots all put in fourth-round claims. The Redskins did their homework and had Jarmon's value pegged accurately.

Ex-Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said Friday that he plans to coach again in the NFL, possibly as soon as 2010.

"I plan on getting back," said Shanahan. "I'll see if there are any opportunities out there at the end of the year that will work out for the club and myself." The Redskins and Cowboys among others are expected to show serious interest should Shanny make himself available next offseason.

The fourth overall pick in the 2002 draft appears to finally have the motivation to get in shape. Three years out of football because you're fat can do that. We'll see how he holds up in training camp, but the 'Skins need depth on their offensive line.

Executive VP of player personnel Vinny Cerrato disclosed that the Redskins had a second-round grade on Kentucky DE Jeremy Jarmon.

The 'Skins believe they got a value pick with their supplemental selection because defensive ends are usually overvalued in the draft. The team figures to use 2009 as a developmental year for Jarmon.

Beat writer Ryan O'Halloran expects Todd Collins to hold off Colt Brennan for the backup quarterback job as long as Collins "proves he is still functional."

Brennan is expected to see plenty of action this summer, so he could at least make the decision tough for coach Jim Zorn if he posts a second straight impressive preseason.

The Washington Times seconds a Washington Post report from last month that Ladell Betts will be more involved in the Redskins' offense in 2009.

Clinton Portis, 28, wore down badly last year after a heavy early-season workload. Betts could steal a few series per game while becoming a bigger presence on third downs, in which case Portis' receiving numbers will drop.

Redskins signed third-round CB Kevin Barnes to a four-year contract, including a $782,500 signing bonus.

Barnes, a physical corner with ideal size and speed from Maryland, will push Fred Smoot for playing time at nickel back. Smoot is coming off a poor year and may be a cap casualty by 2010 if Barnes proves that he's NFL ready.

Former Eagles receiver Todd Pinkston has returned to the team in a coaching intern capacity.

The 32-year-old's playing days appear to be officially over. Pinkston, the Birds' second-round pick in 2000, wound up playing just five years in the league. Primarily a deep threat, Pinkston detested going over the middle. His best season came in 2002, when he caught 60 passes for 798 yards and seven touchdowns to finish as the overall WR30 in fantasy football.

Profootballtalk.com has picked up "subtle indications" from Redskins sources that the team might pursue free agent Michael Vick.

Owner Dan Snyder loves splash signings, and has made it clear that he isn't sold on current Skins starter Jason Campbell. Vick, however, has struggled in a West Coast offense like coach Jim Zorn's previously. He isn't an accurate passer, and the system requires precise timing on throws at every level.

Redskins GM Vinny Cerrato insists the team is not interested in signing free agent Michael Vick.

Profootballtalk.com recently passed along buzz that the 'Skins could pursue Vick. The team reportedly considered the possibility back in June before coming to a "quick and unanimous" that Vick was a poor fit. It's just as well. Vick's ideal scenario won't include a West Coast offense.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Redskins, 49ers, Raiders and Seahawks can be ruled out as possible options for Michael Vick.

That kills four of the most commonly cited possible destinations for Vick. Schefter is as plugged in as any insider, so it's hard to question this report. The National Football Post's Michael Lombardi believes the Jaguars and Rams make the most sense.

Despite the Redskins' offseason flirtations with Mark Sanchez, Jay Cutler, and Mike Vick, coach Jim Zorn says as confident in Jason Campbell as ever.

"I've already seen what I want to see from Jason," he said. "I saw it in OTAs, in the minicamps, in the way he's handled himself." Assuming the Skins don't pursue Vick, Campbell won't face competition in training camp. He projects to benefit from his second year in Zorn's offense and is a fine QB2 bet.
