Redskins coach Jim Zorn continues to downplay reports of animosity between him and Clinton Portis after Portis' miserable finish to 2008.

Portis began losing playing time to Ladell Betts down the stretch, and the club is hoping to use Betts even more this year. "I don't think we ever had any problem at all. We're communicating better than ever," Zorn said, however.
 
Redskins agreed to terms with third-round supplemental draft pick Jeremy Jarmon on a four-year contract with a $755,000 signing bonus.

Jarmon, only 21 after the NCAA disallowed him from finishing out his career at Kentucky, will compete for snaps with declining vets Renaldo Wynn and Phillip Daniels. Washington will likely employ a heavy rotation at left end
 
A league source tells Jason Reid of the Washington Post that free agent Michael Vick believes he'll either end up with the 49ers or Redskins.

Two other sources say there's "nothing there" with Vick and the Skins at this time, but "anything can happen when Dan Snyder is determined to pursue a player." Vick is a Virginia native and was allegedly spotted in Loudon County (VA), a D.C. suburb, earlier this week. A conflict of interest looms, though. Agent Joel Segal represents both Vick and Skins starter Jason Campbell.
 
Redskins OT Mike Williams is down to 342 pounds after beginning the year at about 450.

Stephon Heyer isn't locked in as the starter at right tackle, so Williams and Jeremy Bridges will push him during training camp. It would make for a great story if Williams finds away to crack the starting lineup by Week 1.
 
Redskins coach Jim Zorn left open the possibility of revisiting the Michael Vick situation in the future.

Zorn said he wishes Vick the best and is sure he will return to the NFL. "I would just say it won't be with us, at least at this juncture," added Zorn. Redskins GM Vinny Cerrato has denied an interest in Vick, but many league insiders still see D.C. as Vick's prime landing spot.
 
Jason Campbell believes people are "going to be surprised, real surprised" about the development of second-year wideouts Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly.

The Redskins desperately need at least one of the two to step up and draw attention away from Santana Moss and Chris Cooley. Campbell said Thomas is "getting some things figured out" after a lost rookie season. With a strong summer, he'll have a chance to push Antwan Randle El into the slot
 
NFL insider Adam Schefter said on The Dan Patrick Show Thursday morning that the lack of interest so far in free agent Michael Vick "speaks volumes."

Schefter says the economy is playing a role, as clubs worry about losing sponsors and season-ticket holders. He also doesn't foresee Vick landing in Washington. Vick may have to wait for injuries to strike to garner interest.

I know some of these may be a little dated but I was out for a bit and I like all the Skins fan to see everything.

According to Josina Anderson of Fox 31 in Denver, at least two Redskins coaches would like to see the team sign Michael Vick.

"There is definitely a number of us who would love to have him play here," one coach said Thursday. "I can tell you I would not mind at all." The reporter is based out of Denver, and the coaching source admitted that the team's higher-ups wouldn't include him on Vick meetings, so he likely has little clout. Consider this nugget interesting, but hardly persuasive. GM Vinny Cerrato previously denied interest, though coach Jim Zorn said only that Vick wouldn't be signed "at this juncture."
 
Redskins signed LB Brian Orakpo, the No. 13 overall pick, to a five-year contract worth up to $20 million.

The deal includes $12.1 million in guarantees. Orakpo is penciled in as the starting SAM linebacker on early downs, moving to pass rushing defensive end in nickel and dime situations. With Albert Haynesworth wreaking havoc and attracting extra attention inside, Orakpo's sack total stands to benefit
 
Former receiver James Thrash was hired to assist with the Redskins' player programs.

Thrash was released in June after struggling with a neck injury. He was a below-average receiver and solid special teamer for the Redskins and Eagles.
 
Redskins coach Jim Zorn says he has "a lot more confidence in where Devin Thomas is headed" this summer.

Zorn said Thomas is "a little more seasoned" than fellow second-year receiver Malcolm Kelly. Zorn also pointed out that Thomas actually knows what to do on each play and where to run his routes this year. It appears that Thomas is finally starting to "get it" after showing maturity issues as a rookie. If he keeps it up throughout training camp, Thomas will push Antwaan Randle El into the slot.
 
Redskins coach and quarterback guru Jim Zorn is spending more time with backup QB Colt Brennan than Todd Collins so far in camp.

That's probably just because Brennan needs more coaching than the 39-year-old Collins. It also could be because starter Jason Campbell is a free agent after this season and Brennan could be the 'Skins starter in 2010. Either way, Collins is still No. 2 on the depth chart for now
 
The Redskins' defensive line has reportedly been dominating the team's offensive line at early-training camp practices.

Guards Randy Thomas and Derrick Dockery are predictably having trouble with Albert Haynesworth, while Phillip Daniels has been "hard to move" and rookie Brian Orakpo has displayed terrific pass-rushing technique. The Skins' defensive line looks great on paper, but the offensive line could be a liability.
