O.J. Atogwe revealed this week that the Vikings were one of a few teams that had "serious interest" in signing him before he chose the Redskins.
Atogwe believes God told him to sign with the Redskins. The Almighty, who often takes time out of his hectic schedule to direct action on the football field, must be especially resentful of the lockout. The Vikes' pursuit of Atogwe speaks to veteran Madieu Williams' tenuous spot on the roster

CSN Washington's Ryan O'Halloran suggests the Redskins wouldn't get more than a "used kicking tee" in a Donovan McNabb trade.
The suggestion is half-joking, but realistic. The Redskins wouldn't even get a used kicking tee for McNabb because he's due $12.5 million in 2011, entering his age-35 season, and coming off the worst performance of his career. As much as the Redskins and their fans would like to pretend McNabb still has a trade market, he's going to be released before the season kicks off.

Speaking on the radio Sunday evening, free agent Santana Moss expressed a desire to have his status sorted out quickly following the end of the lockout.
"If you're going to sign me, sign me and let's go," he said. "If the Redskins are going to sign me, let us do it real quick." Moss should get his wish, as free agency will be fast and furious following the lockout's resolution. His chances of remaining in Washington are about 50-50

Washington Post columnist Jason Reid speculates that the Redskins will get no more than a "sixth or conditional seventh-round pick" for Donovan McNabb when teams are allowed to trade players.
Reid accuses Kyle and Mike Shanahan of "devaluing" McNabb by openly criticizing his fit in their offense, and then putting a $10 million option bonus in his contract. Teams interested in acquiring McNabb would require a restructured deal, which will make him even tougher to trade. It's optimistic to think the Skins could get any draft pick for McNabb at all. Concludes Reid, "Shanahan needs to let McNabb move on at any price."

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports the Redskins plan to make a "splash" in free agency, targeting WR Santonio Holmes, OG Marshal Yanda, DE Cullen Jenkins, NT Kris Jenkins, and DT Barry Cofield.
LaCanfora is an ex-Redskins beat writer, and his report is impressively detailed. Landing Holmes is coach Mike Shanahan's "primary objective," with Yanda also high on the list. The Jets and Ravens are expected to "fight vigorously" to retain those players. The Jenkins Brothers are more realistic targets, and league sources believe the 'Skins will land both in a package deal. Despite coming from a 4-3 defense, Cofield has been "the subject of offseason planning" by the Redskins. It's clear that Shanahan plans to reload rather than rebuild in what will turn out to be critical season for his future in Washington.

Brown would prefer to go back to left tackle, but the right contract offer will turn that into a minor issue. If Brown does get away, the Redskins will reportedly target Ravens free agent OT Jared Gaither in addition to G/C Chris Chester. Washington's offensive line coach, Chris Foerster, has experience with both players from his time with the Ravens.

According to NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora, the Redskins ultimately expect to release Donovan McNabb.
Credit to Rotoworld's Evan Silva, who has been insisting for months that no team will trade even a late-round pick for McNabb given his $10 million bonus in September. Redskins sources privately acknowledge this reality. The Vikings are expected to be "among the teams" interested in McNabb, who figures to be held hostage by Mike Shanahan until September.

Redskins team sources tell NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora that they believe coach Mike Shanahan will "ultimately take anything he can" in a trade for Albert Haynesworth.
The sources can't envision the Redskins carrying Haynesworth on the roster as a highly paid distraction in a pivotal year for Shanahan. The Redskins are indeed worried about the Eagles swooping in if Haynesworth is released, so it's in their interest to work out a trade even for modest compensation. Perhaps the Rams or Broncos, with their 4-3 fronts, will be interested

Some members of the Redskins organization have reportedly been "dismayed" at coach Mike Shanahan's "unwavering" support of an unproven John Beck at quarterback.
"He is set on Beck," said one source. "That's his guy. He isn't just saying it for the media or to blow smoke. He's serious as hell about it." Shanahan's new-found love for Beck has some inside the organization wondering why he didn't get the call over Rex Grossman down the stretch last season. Knowing that Shanahan plans to aggressively reload in free agency, his quarterback plans make little sense. Beck has a much greater chance of face-planting than saving his head coach's job.

The Redskins reportedly plan to reinstall veteran Artis Hicks as a starting guard.
Hicks lost his starting job while playing through thigh and groin injuries last season. The plan is for Kory Lichensteiger or Will Montgomery to compete with Casey Rabach at center while the Redskins target a free agent guard to start opposite Hicks

The Redskins' front office has reportedly "wavered" on the merits of re-signing free agent LB Rocky McIntosh.
McIntosh was ill-fitted for the new 3-4 defense, and he fared poorly in the coaching staff's 2010 evaluations. Given what we know about the Redskins plans, McIntosh is a poor bet to return

With Carlos Rogers set to sign elsewhere, the 'Skins have just Kevin Barnes, Brandyn Thompson, and Byron Westbrook behind DeAngelo Hall. Buchanon won't receive heavy interest on the open market

ESPN NFC East blogger Dan Graziano believes coach Mike Shanahan would deactivate Albert Haynesworth for 16 games before releasing the disgruntled defensive tackle.
Graziano has been told that Shanahan is not concerned about Haynesworth as a season-long distraction for just that reason. Shanny may end up settling for a mid-round pick in exchange for Haynesworth, but he won't be released to sign with the Eagles.

The Washington Post's Mike Jones expects Ryan Torain to get the "first shot" as the Redskins' starting running back.
Torain, one of the most injury prone players in the league, deserves to be penciled in as the starter after leading the team in rushing last season. However, the Redskins didn't draft Roy Helu and Evan Royster for no reason. A committee system under Mike Shanahan is likely.

Appearing on NFL Network Monday, SI's Peter King hinted that the Vikings are not a likely suitor for Donovan McNabb.
King's assertion wasn't as strong as a recent one from FOX Sports' Adam Caplan, but he's certainly skeptical. "I'm hearing that Minnesota is not as in love with McNabb as we thought they might have been," said King. Local reporters in Minnesota also insist the Vikings won't pursue McNabb, especially if he'd cost them a draft pick. Without the Vikes in the mix, the Redskins will have a very difficult (impossible?) time trying to trade McNabb.

Chris Russell of ESPN 980 Washington reports that Albert Haynesworth will report to Redskins training camp.
"Of course he will," said a source. The reasons are obvious. Haynesworth wants out of Washington, and the quickest way to force the team's hand is to cause another media blitz by showing up on time. (Assuming Mike Shanahan reacts to the disruption this time.) The Skins can save $3.4 million under the projected salary cap by releasing or trading Haynesworth before the season.
