I'm all for bringing back Santana Moss, if we also end up making a deal for another receiver with size like Braylon Edwards.

If we sign Matt Leinart, I will be close to done with the Shanahans. Just stick with one or two reclamation jobs at quarterback, there is no need to add a third. I would however, like to see Kyle Orton as I think he would fit this offense perfectly. Given what happened with McNabb last season, I doubt the Redskins make a move for him.

There's been a lot more talking than deal-making on this first day of post-lockout NFL, so it's worth passing along something said on ESPN Tuesday afternoon.

Adam Schefter reported that the Redskins have had trade talks with the Minnesota Vikings regarding Donovan McNabb. It's been known for awhile that Minnesota might be the most likely landing spot for McNabb. If the two teams had fresh talks on Tuesday, that could be significant. Certainly, the Redskins would prefer to acquire something in exchange for McNabb than unload him for nothing. And the Vikings might prefer avoiding the risk of McNabb getting released and opting to sign with another team.

Of course, there is an obstacle. McNabb is due that $10 million bonus next month, and no team is going to trade with the Redskins unless the veteran quarterback is willing to renegotiate terms. So it's possible that McNabb holds the keys to his own future right now.

The Vikings lost Brett Favre to retirement, and Tarvaris Jackson agreed to terms with Seattle. Minnesota drafted Christian Ponder, but training camp might not be enough time for any rookie quarterback to learn the system and start in Week 1. A veteran like McNabb could be the stopgap signal-caller Minnesota needs.

The Washington Redskins have re-signed leading receiver Santana Moss to a three-year, $15 million deal, according to ESPN.

Retaining Moss, who has led the team in receiving in each of the last six seasons, was one of the Redskins’ top priorities of the offseason.

Moss, 32, and Coach Mike Shanahan were on record saying they wanted to work out a deal to keep him in a Redskins uniform. The two sides reached an agreement on the evening of the first possible day Washington was able to negotiate with Moss since the end of the lockout.

Moss, who didn’t immediately return a phone call, last season thrived in his first year under Kyle Shanahan, reeling in a career-high 93 catches, third in the NFL. He also recorded the fourth 1,000-plus yard season of his career.

Now the question is if Moss will remain Washington’s top receiving threat. The team also reportedly has interest in signing Santonio Holmes away from the Jets.

One more undrafted free agent to add to the list: Kevin Gidrey, a fullback from the University of South Florida.

Gidrey tweeted Tuesday: “GLORY TO GOOODDDD!!! I NEVER GAVE UP MY FAITHHHH!! IM GOING TO THE REDSKINSSSS!!”

Gidrey, who was listed as a tight end at USF, measured at 6 feet 2, 241 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine. The Virginia Beach native began his college career at East Carolina. He finished his college career with 222 yards and one touchdown on 21 receptions

The Washington Redskins have told punter Josh Bidwell not to bother reporting to training camp on Thursday because the team will be releasing him, according to an ESPN report.
The soon to be 36-year-old Bidwell spent all but four games on injured reserve last season while nursing a hip injury.
Teams can’t release players until Thursday.
The Redskins still have Sam Paulescu under contract but are believed to be in pursuit of free agent Brad Maynard, who punted for Chicago last season.

Throughout the offseason, Washington Redskins fans have asked the following when it comes to the quarterback position:

Who will start for Washington in 2011?

A.) John Beck

B.) Rex Grossman

C.) A quarterback to be named later

Vince Young’s name had been mentioned at one point, and although there were people within the organization that last season would’ve preferred Young over McNabb, the chances of him coming to Washington this season don’t appear to be great.

Kyle Orton’s name was tossed about on sports-talk radio shows when it was learned Tuesday that the Broncos plan on putting him on the trading block.

Now another quarterback has been linked to the Redskins. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that the Redskins have entered the bidding for Matt Leinart and that the former USC star is weighing offers from Washington and the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle just signed Tavaris Jackson, and there were reports that Leinart was on his way there as well. Turns out that’s not a done deal yet.

Leinart has been a disappointment thus far in his career, but he’s still young and has time to turn things around. Keep in mind that last season, he played in Houston for Gary Kubiak, a Mike Shanahan disciple, and so he likely has just about as much familiarity with the Redskins’ system as Beck does. Could Leinart beat out Beck and Grossman for the starting job? You wouldn’t exactly call it mission impossible.

Well, we got one defensive lineman already, taking Barry Cofield from the Giants on a six year deal. Where do you guys see him transitioning from the 4-3, to nose tackle or one of the end spots?

Either way, its a good deal. I've always liked watching Cofield- I think he brings a lot of energy to the field and he's only 27 and part of an excellent Giants defensive line rotation.

DT Barry Cofield(notes) will have a new team in the same division in 2011, as he has agreed to terms with the Redskins.

Fox31's Josina Anderson firstreported the move Tuesday evening. Cofield, who is entering his sixth season in the NFL, has started 78 games. He has 10½ career sacks.

On Monday, Cofield told The Star-Ledger that he didn't expect to get a fair deal from the Giants.

"Hopefully I'll get fair-market value that other quality starters get. From what I'm hearing, I don't think the Giants can pay that amount," he said. "If they were competitive, absolutely. But to say I'd take an unfair contract or be willing to be paid less than that, no way I'm going to do that."

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Cofield signed a six-year deal. The contract will be made official on Friday.

Donte Stallworth(notes), still looking to get his career back on track, may have found the right place.

The free agent wide receiver has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Washington Redskins, meaning he’ll be in an offense in great need of a receiver to go down field and make plays, even after the club brought back Santana Moss(notes). Pro Football Talk first reported the deal.

Stallworth appeared in only eight games for the Baltimore Ravens last season, catching just two passes as he never meshed with what offensive coordinator Cam Cameron was doing. He’s now four years removed from a 697-yard season with the New England Patriots.

With a one-year contract, Stallworth can earn bigger things moving forward if he can start producing. The key is having the opportunity and he should get that in Washington.

The Redskins project to have Moss and Armstrong as the starters, with Hankerson and Stallworth battling for the slot receiver spot (and most reports are saying Hankerson could start right away.) The Redskins also drafted Niles Paul and Aldric Robinson in the fifth and sixth rounds respectively. So thats six receivers right there, plus return specialist Brandon Banks, so that could be it.

Redskins LT Trent Williams is down to 319 pounds after finishing last season at 326.
Williams was a no-show for offseason player-organized workouts and entered the league with work ethic concerns, so this should be a good sign. Last year's No. 4 overall pick in the draft will return as the Redskins' starting left tackle. He graded out as Pro Football Focus' 66th-rated tackle out of 78 in pass protection last year. The Redskins are desperate for him to step up.

According to the Washington Post's Jason Reid, it would not "play well" in the Redskins locker room if the Albert Haynesworth circus is allowed to continue throughout another training camp.
Brian Orakpo made that clear Tuesday when he said the players weren't putting up with the nonsense again. Haynesworth plans to report to camp Thursday, forcing the hand of dictatorial head coach Mike Shanahan. Per Reid, many around the league would be surprised if the Redskins opt to commit $5.4 million of the salary cap on a disgruntled Haynesworth.

Redskins informed RB/KR Chad Simpson of his release.
Simpson, primarily a special teamer, was going to be questionable for camp coming off a broken metacarpal in his foot. He's not much of a player, and the Redskins are suddenly very deep at running back even if it's mostly just bodies.

Redskins agreed to terms with sixth-round WR Aldrick Robinson on a four-year contract.
Robinson isn't as gifted as fellow SMU alum Emmanuel Sanders, a revelation as a rookie in Pittsburgh last season. However, Robinson has drawn high marks from NFL Films guru Greg Cosell as a "dynamic slot prospect" who could eventually replace 32-year-old Santana Moss. All of the Skins' offseason receiver pickups may have Robinson ticketed for the practice squad in year one

Rabach will be 34 in Sepetember and is coming off shoulder surgery. He was also owed $7 million over the next two years. Still, it's a bad sign for Rabach that he can't stick on a team desperate for offensive line help. Perhaps the 'Skins want to bring him back at a cheaper rate.

Redskins signed No. 177 overall pick Evan Royster to a four-year, $2.15 million contract.
Royster couldn't have landed in a much better spot. Penn State's all-time leading rusher may not have elite NFL burst or elusiveness, but he's a nice fit for Mike Shanahan's one-cut scheme. The Redskins are reportedly high on Royster, who currently sits behind injury-prone Ryan Torain and fellow rookie Roy Helu on the depth chart. Royster is a name to monitor once the season gets going

Redskins informed RB Andre Brown of his impending release.
Brown will actually go on waivers, but passing through unclaimed won't be a problem considering how poorly he's shown through two NFL seasons. Brown was a good-looking prospect coming out of North Carolina State. He just hasn't been able to stay remotely healthy since tearing his Achilles' in August of 2009

Redskins released NT Ma'ake Kemoeatu.
Major injuries to Kemoeatu's Achilles and shoulder have crippled his once solid career. He was only scheduled to make $1.5 million in base salary this season plus a $200K roster bonus, but the Redskins are wise to not even pay him that.

Redskins released DE Phillip Daniels.
Daniels was only due a million bucks, but the Redskins are on the verge of completing a deal with Cullen Jenkins. They also used a second-round pick in April on Jarvis Jenkins. Daniels has slowed down considerably and turned 38 earlier in the offseason. It seems likely that he will call it a career.

Looks like we told Rabach we had "enough" depth on the offensive line. That doesn't bode well for a free agent signing like Davin Joseph. We need to at least bring back Jammal Brown, because I am not liking how our line is shaping up.

i agree with you. Id like to land Joseph too. I'll be surprised if Brown stays.
