I would guess if England won the silver medal in Olympic basketball, their fans would be happy. If US wins the silver in basketball, its a huge disappointment.

That point is pointless and irrelevant though. Of course US fans are "over the moon" with "making it out of the group". Our expectations were to not win a single game, let alone make it out of the group and have a chance to advance out of the round of 16. I'm equally not surprised that that isn't good enough for England. If there was an international American Football tournament and the US team only won one game, I'm pretty sure it'd be a big deal in a bad way in the US.

I don't understand why you're being a bit of a douche about this. All I'm saying is that it isn't at all surprising that US fans are over the moon. You're being a curmudgeon for really no reason.

Its like you are criticizing Americans for acknowledging that ties can be good results and not all World Cup groupings are of equal difficulty. Very strange. I thought that would be a good thing, since usually American soccer fans are criticized for thinking that winning is the only thing and that every country smaller than the US must suck at sports.

Two absolute crackers tomorrow for 4th of July. I got a hard on for both of these games but especially Brazil/Colombia. I'm half Brazilian (Mother & Grandmother were born in Fortaleza). Hopefully Brazil stop playing mediocre and use this match to push through to the finals. JRod is an monster though. Can't wait to see the atmosphere for it.

After watching a lot of fixtures in the premier league the past 2 seasons, it's just out of habit hearing it so much.

It has nothing to do with being English or not. Somehow managing to get out of the group does not hide the fact that we played terribly. Were it not for the efforts of Tim Howard, we never would've made it out of the group. The point is that English fans throw massive hissy fits when England does things like... manage to only win one match in a major tournament, where as US fans are over the moon with that same result. I wouldn't expect you to understand, you're like the BigBucs of the footie forum.

I thought that I was pretty clear what was bugging me. And I've always been this bitter and annoyed, but this is up there with when my friend said "I'm off to the pub, mate!" regarding where he was going to watch one of the games.
