Almost everyone updates their smartphone and how many times do u realize after the update that something is fucked up?

AT&T's bloatware-loaded update to 4.3 on the Note II was atrocious. Had to root&rom the wife's phone to make it useable again.

It really isnt much different than a system freeze and i have had that happen on every game system I have owned back to intellivision. Every smartphone I have had has frozen at some point to the fact that I have to remove the battery.

I think this black screen is an HDMI issue. I wonder if u dont have the hdmi in from the cable reciever if it will still happen...just a thought.

These firmware updates always cause some grief while fixing other stuff...its a computer with software and no software is without bugs. At this point most tech savy people are used to these type of annoyances.

XB1 is outselling MS goals. Both systems continue to sell at a really high level. It's not flopping by any means.

My wife is already complaining about the lack of videos on Xbox Fitness. She has done all of them multiple times and tells me she's bored of it every other day, but likes how it tracks things.

Once they start charging for it, it is going on ebay.

Unless they pull off Halo 2 anniversary without screwing it up, and/or Halo 5 is great.

You can laugh at batteries, but our PS4 controllers only last 6-7 hours of gameplay before needing a re-charged. Let's not get too cocky here.

I will say the Play To feature works great, and I did some research to get .mkv files working. This is on Windows 8.1 but I'm sure it works on 7 as well.

-Get the Video app on Xbox One from the Store and run it once for any updates, etc.

-On your PC move the mouse to the top right of screen for the charm bar to appear. Hit Settings -> Control Panel. Navigate to Devices and Printers. Click Add a Device. Xbox-SystemOS should appear. Click it and install it.

-Download and install this codec package, I installed both the 32bit and the 64 bit advanced files:

-Once installed on your pc, the shark codec window should open. Check the bottom check box to run the recommended settings. A pop up should appear asking if you use the Play To feature, choose yes.

Thats it, you should now be able to stream .mkv's. Right click on said .mkv file, then Play To>Xbox-System-OS. It should take over from there. (Make sure your Xbox is on)

Xbox One Twitch Notes

It looks like broadcasting to Twitch might be better on Xbox One than PlayStation 4.

Canny Reddit user rotj ran Microsoft spokesperson Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb's recent stream of Plants versus Zombies: Garden Warfare through the Twitch Analyser, which determined the Xbox One Twitch output is of a greater resolution than that of PlayStation 4.

Major Nelson's stream was broadcast at a resolution of 1280x720, while Twitch streams on PlayStation 4 weigh in at 960x540. Both platforms output at 30fps.

Additionally, Xbox One Twitch streaming will not broadcast audio from Party Chat, and streamers can see chat and viewer statistics without them being displayed on the stream.

The Xbox One will also allow streamers to archive their streams, which is a much-requested bit of functionality the PS4 currently lacks.

Twitch streaming on Xbox One will roll out with the platform's March update, which promises to improve, among other things, the Party Chat experience. Microsoft is making no secret about the fact that it's implementing these features to make way for the launch of Titanfall on March 11.

So basically Microsoft has the better built in streaming option because they took longer to get their act together than have it working as crappy as the PS4 streaming does today. I think people are still better off using a stand alone device like the el gato since it has so much more customization capabilities than the on-board streaming.

People like easy. Pressing a button and having everything you need is simpler and cheaper. There's always a bigger and better, but this is pretty great from the little I've seen. The twitch stream last night from Hyrb was nearly flawless and ran with a solid resolution.

Swarley posed a great question last night. Since Twitch will be yet another app, does that mean that you can stream another device that you have running through the XBone? So, if my WiiU, PS4, etc are funning through the XBone can I stream that content?

No, bc that would mean you have to open the tv app to do it, and hyrb said it will only cast while you play a game. If you even go to the home screen, it puts up that placeholder screen.

But can't you play a game and watch tv at the same time? Is two apps running at the same time the limit?

The twitch stream will only display the game, as far as I know. And yea i woke up this morning and mine was updated.

this is why I purchased an elgato. I dont need to depend on the services of Sony or Microsoft for streaming purposes. Now if Sony would just remove the hdmi encryption so I can stop using a component to hdmi adapter

Don't forget to update the controllers for your Xbox One after the March update. You won't be able to use third-party headsets or receive stereo sound through the headset without the update, in addition to some calibration requests that were made by Respawn for the Titanfall release.

It's under the settings area ("Xbox go to settings") and plug the controller to the USB port on the right hand side of your console.
