[XB1] Official Xbox One Thread

I don't work in retail, but I work for a company that depends on retailers.. We don't accept ANY sold stock back unless the product hits a specific defect rate, and even then there are a series of fines that are levied before they're able to return the items.

Sometimes we will act as a middle man to sell our older products from somewhere like Wal-Mart or Target to Big Lots! or Burlington, but we NEVER take shit back.

These are baby products, so I'm sure the contracts are different but that's been my experience with a retailer/supplier relationship.

All products are different of course. Electronics is a different ball game, especially game consoles.

Most game consoles sell like hot cakes so it's never really an issue.

But these kind of deals even happen when consoles sell well. Like I mentioned with the 3DS XL BF deal at Target. I'll try to find the old tweet but at the time there was tons of speculation about the very newly released Zelda Edition being included. It wasn't mentioned in the ad and most people figured there was no chance it was included. Nintendo's official twitter account then released a statement tweet clarifying that the Zelda Edition was included.
Why on Earth would Nintendo give a shit about Target's sale?

Yea, why would Nintendo give a shit about marketing one of it's largest retailers to help sell their own product? That surely makes no sense.

So you better believe when these stores offer these $50 discounts plus a gift card on these consoles it is all working in unison with the manufacturer. If you think for a second Target is taking a $100 hit per console you're out of your fucking tiny minds. MS authorizes the deals to help push stock so that they don't have to refund anything and also, in this case in particular, to seriously push sales in a month where their marquee 'system seller' game releases.
It's not rocket science.

I worked for a retailer back when the PS2 came out, Their cost was $291 and retailed for $299.99

Also, fun fact: The jewelry was marked up 300%, so when retailers have a 50% off sale on their jewelry, they are still making a killing off of you...not that any respectable person would buy jewelry from the place I worked at however.

Was that at launch? Maybe the margin changed over time but I know at launch Best Buy made one cent profit on each console.
