Either 1 of those fights will help the Strikeforce card with Overeem and Riggs out, plus its free on Showtime

In a sea change for the promotional landscape of mixed martial arts, Affliction has agreed to cease promoting fights and become an official sponsor of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports first reported the news on Friday afternoon, and a UFC official confirmed the report to MMAWeekly.com.

A joint announcement between the Las Vegas-based promotion and California-based clothing maker is expected soon.

Few details about the deal are known, but the popular clothing brand could be seen on Zuffa fighters as soon as Aug. 8, when UFC 101 lands in Philadelphia.

A similar deal was first proposed last October after the postponement of Affliction’s second event, “Day of Reckoning.” Executives from the UFC and Affliction met in secret in Las Vegas and offered to take Affliction on as a sponsor and co-branded apparel maker in exchange for ceasing to promote fights. Affliction executives rejected the offer after a fiery confrontation between co-founder Todd Beard and UFC co-owner Lorenzo Ferttita.

The fate of fighters marooned by Affliction’s cancellation of its third show, “Trilogy,” is unknown at this time.

I dont think the UFC would want any of these contracts because they are all non-exclusive and this seems to just be a sponsership deal only, probably just a bunch of free agents now

They should have went on with the show, paid the fighters and than closed up shop, this was a pretty shady way to go about it, bunch of guys have trained for months and months and now have nothing to show for it

blah, I hope Strikeofrce can use some of these guys for the 15th, probably at a discounted rate I wuld assume, you know these guys want to make some of this money back

Some more info, who knows though, looks like the ppv companies pulled the plug

"We do not have the complete details of what sort of contracts were in place, but as it was explained to us, the basic reason why the show was cancelled was due to a legal issue with Pay Per View providers. Following Josh Barnett’s positive steroid test that was announced by the CSAC earlier in the week, Affliction would not have had enough time to change the promo spots and commercials that PPV providers were running.

The main draw of the card was the Josh Barnett Vs. Fedor Emelianenko main event and since that went up in smoke due to the positive test, Affliction legally could not run change the main event this close to the Pay-Per-View because it was the main focus of the promo’s.

So, at the end of the day, all legal reasons between Affliction and PPV aside, a positive test by Josh Barnett for performance enhancing substances is what shut the show down. "

That's messed up, Mask died in a car accident and those three guys are all hardcore fans of the sport and have done a lot for it/fighters over the years. Great entrepreneurs too, their story is pretty amazing.

Wow, interesting stuff... Almost like a technicality. Surprised they couldn't get some sort of deal in place to delay this a few weeks, or move to Showtime or something else.

I dont know if I buy that, I cant remember a PPV company pulling a show because of a fight being changed, it does always say 'card subject to change'

I cant remember if this has ever happened in a boxing main event, I remember a couple UFCs having the main event changed but that was in the dark ages and not on PPV anyway

I wouldnt think the PPV companies would care anyway, they make there money and nothing they put on will do better than Afflicition
