Hell, each of the 10 movies nominated got a mini-lovefest during the show complete with someone talking extensively about it then a lengthy clip. No need for him to come out and talk even more about them, especially with the clock striking midnight on the east coast.
Anyhoo, no real surprises this year, though I'm mildly surprised about Bullock's win (then again, I still haven't actually seen The Blindside). All feel deserved to me, including Best Pic. Why you guys thought Jeff Bridges wasn't going to win is beyond me. Everyone in the industry has been slobbing his knob since he got the nom and he seemed more of a lock than anyone in any other category, save for maybe Mo'Nique in Best Supporting Actress.
As usual, it was a solid show stretched too far, much like this post.

I still need to see An Education, Up in the Air, and Precious. Will get a chance to see Precious tomorrow, seeing as it's out on DVD. This was a weak year, but still had a few good movies. Hurt Locker was good, but like others said, not a classic. It would not of won in year's past.

Difference is...there wasn't anything close to Sean Penn's Harvey Milk performance this year to Jeff Bridges.
Penn and Rourke's performances were about even last year...Rourke got the "comeback" boost though...just wasn't enough for lib Hollywood...
Avatar takes it for me this year. What Cameron did was revolutionary. After seeing Avatar, it's hard for me to watch movies knowing the possibilities 3d presents. 3d is the future as you could see last night with Samsung advertising their new television. Sadly, there wont be many programs that take full effect of the 3d animation until a few years down the road.

In my opinion, Avatar shouldn't even have been up for Best Picture. Best Picture should be about the best movie - the best story. Avatar was visually extraordinary but that was it. Visual effects shouldn't qualify films for Best Picture, that's why they have separate categories for graphics/visuals.

I also think Inglorious Basterds was a bit overrated. The acting, dialogue, and characters were superb. The plot itself was good, but not special.
I haven't seen the original Inlgorious Bastards, and I know that Quentin Tarantino put his own spin on it, but the movie itself was not completely original, either.
The Hurt Locker was a simple yet extraordinary original film that told a very basic story about people we all know and can relate to. The characters and scenes felt eerily real. The actors felt like people you actually know and the scenes almost felt like you were watching documentary. It was simply beautiful. A classic or best movie of the decade? No, but it was a breath of fresh air compared to the recent shit Hollywood has been putting out and sucking off.
I haven't seen Up In The Air or Crazy Heart yet, but I'm willing to bet I'll find both of them to be very good as well. Movies that tell simple stories about real life situations and people get bonus points from me. They evoke thought, attachment, and true emotion.

I saw The Hurt Locker and I thought it was good, but I didn't see its greatness. It was the same way for No Country For Old Men with me. I actually think District 9 was the best this year. The special effects were top notch and were done on a smaller budget not to mention it had a great story and character development.
I'm with Tailback on Avatar, great special effects but a very average story with some serious plot holes. Inglorious Basterds would've been my runner up if it had focused on the Basterds more, I mean Shoshanna was cool and all but I think Tarantino could've done way more with a full focus on the Basterds.

District 9 was a very cool movie but again, it's not something we can relate to. There is something special about a simple story that puts a lump in your throat and then provokes thought and discussion after viewing it.
Star Trek was awesome, so was District 9, so was Avatar. But none of those movies truly made me feel or think much of anything other than, "Damn that was tight."

After reading the book and thoroughly enjoying it, i know that everything the book did for me would get absolutely destroyed by Hollywood. The previews didn't even look realistic to the book.
