The Hurt Locker or Avatar will win...not sure which, I went with The Hurt Locker, but whatever...

Neither was close to best picture of the year. The best nominated films were Up In The Air, Inglorious Basterds.

It's alright... If you read the book you saw the movie already.

I think it's a better movie if you haven't read the book.

The sad thing is that shitty Denzel Washington movie came out like a month and a half later, so most people didn't even realize the movie came out.

I read and loved the book. I still need to check the movie out, though. Probably wait till DVD.

The movie was solid. It stuck to the book really well and slightly expanded the role of the mother. It did a great job capturing the bleakness of the world and how depressing it is.

To be honest, my top two nominated films were District 9 and Up. To be fair, I haven't seen Up in the Air or An Education yet. Up in the Air looks like my kind of movie, but I don't think An Education has what it takes to be the winner.

Up, frankly, was on the most heartfelt movies I've seen in a long time. I enjoyed Basterds and Avatar, and I thought the Hurt Locker was fantastic, but I felt like I've seen those before. Up, while sticking to a lot of Pixar trademarks, really expanded the personal side with the relationship between Elie and Carl.

Who knows, maybe I'm a sucker. Hurt Locker was a good pick to win, definetly better than Avatar

Also earlier in this thread Tailback said he likes movies that relate to you and afterwards makes you think and have a discussion about them. Well all 10 nominees had that. I really dont see the reasoning in how some fo the nominees didnt have it because all 10 of them i could talk about for an hour even more. Nearly every movie relates to you in someway or form, you just have to catch it.

I really dont see the reasoning in how some fo the nominees didnt have it because all 10 of them i could talk about for an hour even more. You can't relate to Avatar, Up, District 9, Star Trek, etc. like you can relate it to The Hurt Locker for pretty obvious reasons.

1) Those movies weren't real. They were completely fictional.

2) I understand the concept of being able to relate societal themes within the movie, but you cannot put yourself in the shoes of an individual characters in the movies mentioned above. You can literally put yourself in the shoes of the guys in The Hurt Locker.

3) There is no real remorse or fear felt for the characters in the movies mentioned for the same reasons as number 2. You cannot identify with the fear that the Navi in Avatar had, or the old man in Up, or Wikis in D9 because again, their stories are completely fictional and outside the realm of possibility.

I didn't take this year seriously when Crazy Heart didn't get nominated. You can argue that Bridges performance carried Crazy Heart, but the same can be said for Bullock in The Blind Side. Crazy Heart is also a better overall movie than Avatar (which I liked a lot.)

2009 was weak as fuck to begin with... I can't wait for 2010 to start putting out the good shit, like Liam Neeson in ''The A-Team.''
