Damn shame.....I think the jailing was unjust, but he put himself in that position

The cat was a super bowl hero, career was booming....

And he throws it all away in one mindless night

Thing I always wondered is, he proclaimed to carry a fire arm because he was apprehensive of the rash of robberies that happened in or near a few players home

So wtf were you doing out in a club? Shouldn't you be home with your wife and baby making sure they were protected if you were that scared?

Or just hire security if you're going out?

Plax wasn't indicted until after he rejected the Giants contract offer. Shit would have happened behind the scenes and no indictment with mandatory minimums would have ever been issued. Mayor Bloomberg would have wanted no part in sending the local teams best WR to the slammer either, he is also an elected official. The Giants owners would have contributed to a few campaigns and fundraisers, Plax would have said he was sorry and plead to a lesser charge and the mayor would have said he thought justice was done and he supported the DA's decision to offer a plea bargain.

I'm not sure what you are confused about? NY isn't Green Bay where you make the rules up as you go along. The charge he was indicted on, regardless of whether he signed a contract with the Giants or not, carries a Mandatory Minimum Sentence. This means that if anyone caught, charged, and indicted for possesion of a firearm without a F.I.D card, will have to face such penalties. Period. Point. Blank. Regardless if Bloomberg had a hard on for him or not, he was going to jail for the Mandatory Minimum Sentence that his charge called for. As I pointed out in regards to Stallworth, his charge did not have Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Guidelines in the state of Florida, therefore a plea agreement was drawn up that all sides agreed to. If Florida had Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Guidelines for Stallworth's charge, you can bet that he would be serving the Minimum of whatever the Sentencing Guidlines would be. Example- Vehiculer Manslaughter in Massachusetts carries a 1 year Minimum Sentence. Guess what? If it happened in Mass. he would be serving a 1 year minimum sentence. No if's, and's, or but's. Whoever it maybe. If Tom Brady is convicted, or pleads out to that charge, he would do a year in prison, no matter what his contract status is!

I'm well aware of that, which is why I said if he had been on the Giants active roster, the DA would not have sought an indictment from the grand jury in the first place. He would have charged Plax with a lesser crime in exchange for a guilty plea and Plax would be playing football right now for the Giants.

You are fooling yourself if you do not think the owner of the Giants and public opinion over their star WR would not have swayed the prosecution of this case.

Maybe Bloomberg was so hard up because Plax didn't sign a contract yet? Public opinion would have been divided seeing that NY is a 2 team city, but I'm sure most Giant fans wouldn't even want him after this debacle, contract or not. Also, its not as if he was caught just carrying a concealed weapon alone, it discharged in his pants, in the middle of a packed nightclub, where weapons are not allowed. If anything Plax should be happy with his sentence, considering that bullet goes a few inches either way, and he could be doing 25 to life. I don't care if Plax signed the largest contract in NFL history, there would be outrage, and public scrutiny that the Giants would never want to handle. Believe what you want, but I don't think that I'm the fool here.

No, I guess I am the fool for thinking that Superbowl winning star NFL players would ever get preferential treatments from the courts. It's not like that has ever happened before and I am way out on a limb to suspect it could have happened in this case if Plax had not rejected the Giants contract demands and still been a member of the team when he had his first court date in March PRIOR to any indictments being sought by the district attorney.

They didn't make them forget about him last year when the Giants could have repeated if he had been there for the playoffs.
