Cause you had a quality starting QB on the bench that was wasting away his prime and would have left if not given the chance to play.

It's not like finding quality starting QB's in the draft is an easy thing to do, just ask Oakland/Cleveland/San Francisco/etc.

You had 1-2 years of Favre left, could have kept him and lost Rodgers, thus potentially fucking up your QB spot with no extended future.

Or you do what they did and ensure another decade+ of decent QB play.
