ALBANY, N.Y. (AP)—Michael Vick has a place on a minor league football team if he can get reinstated by the NFL.

The Albany Firebirds, an arenafootball2 franchise, have offered the 28-year-old quarterback a one-year contract at the league standard: $200 a week plus a $50 bonus for a win.

Vick quarterbacked the Atlanta Falcons for six seasons before being convicted of bankrolling an interstate dog fighting business.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has not said if he will lift Vick’s suspension after he completes a 23-month prison sentence. Vick goes from federal prison to home confinement next month.

The Firebirds’ contract offer requires that Vick donate $100,000 to a local humane society.

A call to Vick’s agent was not immediately returned.

Ok I'm puting my hating hat on to say this. I think it would be tremendously ironic and helarious if Vick goes from assuming he'd have a 10,000,000.00 contract to making $200.00 a week. That's just busting my gut over here thinking about it.:laugh:

Honestly I don't see any reason why Vick shouldn't be reinstated. Fuck whatever peta has to say on the subject, those fuckers can go blow their dogs. Vick did the time for his crime, and in my honest opinion he did less then some other NFL players in the news right now.

No I agree with you. I don't want him to suffer anymore than he has to. I would just think it would make it a more interesting story for me. Going from millions to all he can get is $200.00 a WEEK. A Week man! He mad that per second in the NFL...or something like that. :laugh:

But if you think about this way though. If a person is found guilty for a major crime, and yes dog fighting is a major crime weather you agree if it is or not, then chances of them getting a good job right away are very slim. And since the NFL is a business some could say it could apply.

I believe he should be instated though because I feel everyone deserves a second chance depending on the situation.

it's not about that...

its about the commissioner allowing him to continue playing professional football and lifting the ban.

I don't care if Vick never gets a job again, its just the principal of it, the man paid his dues, now the ban should be lifted.
 
This is an Arena 2 team trying to get some publicity by putting out this offer. Vick would at the VERY least be able to get a spot on an Arena 1 team.
 
As much as I think Vick is a terrible human being.. and as much as I think he sucks as a quarterback.. if Pac Man Jones got 12 chances (exaggerated number.. sort of) then Vick deserves another shot. I'm sorry but the man more than paid for his actions. He'll never be the same again, even if he performs at the level everyone expected him to.. he forever disenfranchised a large amount of fans, because animal cruelty is extremely taboo to most people.

I don't think he should be suspended anymore for this. Just reinstate the guy and let him have a shot to get his life back on track as much as he can.

While I don't condone what he did to the dogs, I agree with this.
Like the NFL commish said - all he needs to do now is show honest remorse for what he did.
He has definitely served a fair punishment.
I don't think adding another year out of the NFL would serve anyone.
He would do more good playing and possibly showing kids the error of his ways.

Hell, people serve less time for killing human beings (see Leonard Little).

This is Roger Goodell's time and you've gotta start somewhere. While it might not seem fair to ban Vick from the league, he has every right to do so. He's trying to clean the negative image the NFL is beginning to have amongst the populace. It is his league and if he says that Vick will be banned, then Vick should be banned. Maybe then we'll begin to see players enter this league with a desire to keep their images clean for the sake of keeping their paycheck and even for the sake of continuing to play the sport that they supposedly love ... a sport that hundreds of thousands of men everywhere would give their left nut to prove they can still play that they have not lost their touch.

I also disagree with everything Vick did and believed he got what was coming to him. I also believe he wasn't the great quarterback everyone made him out to be. He was just a popular flashy figure who got a lot of "casual fans" to enjoy the game more.

However, since the American justice system believe Vick has served his time and paid his dues, I don't see any reason why he should continue to be banned past the limit the current commish set.

I've got a strong personal hatred for dog fighting (something I've discussed with Heelsox on Sportshouse on this very topic), but I don't see the idea of rehabilitation working if the person is never given the chance to redeem himself.

Develop a skill/talent and go make the big bucks yourself. Vick wasn't handed a multi-million dollar contract because he got lucky so-to-speak.
 
We got a AF2 team in town if vick plays here im gonna be first in line front row and trying to get his autograph and a pic.
