say what you want about Davis, he has earned all the criticism he gets, but he wants to win while he is still alive and all you were ever going to get out of a Tom Cable was 8-8 and 9-7. Sweeping the division and not making the playoffs was humiliating too. I mean, think about all the awful coaches in history, and not one of them has ever managed to fuck up sweeping the division before.

People keep talking about the Raiders going undefeated in the division, which is awesome and completely made my season, but they're forgetting that the Raiders went 2-8 against the NFC West and AFC South.

The defense was still very suspect this season. DLine and front 7 were strong vs the run and getting pass pressure but the secondary was pretty damn weak other than Asomugha.

Cable controlled the offense last season and it was horrible. Obviously, Jamarcus Russel was a huge reason as to why the offense sucked so much but Hue Jackson is the reason why guys like McFadden, Bush, Ford, and DHB, improved a ton this season.

I dont see really see the comparison between Singletary and Cable. Singletary was on a lot of teams radars as a head coach before he proved to the entire world that he was terrible at it. Cable wasnt meant to last more then a few games, but IMO hes done pretty well with a pretty poorly run team.

Tom Cable wasn't great, but taking a team that had 8 straight 11 loss seasons to 8-8 is a damn good job. It isn't Belichek, but it is stepping in the right direction for the first time in a LONG time for the Raiders. Why can a coach for having the best record your team has had in 8 years?

I cannot wait to see Jackson get the job and completely mismanage shit. A guy with zero head coaching experience and has only been in the NFL for 2 non-consecutive seasons. Oh by the way, his only other season OCing in the NFL, his team was DEAD LAST in the league in offense.

Cable gets a pass since he was forced to start a guy at the demands of the owner. Once he was able to use his own guy (even late last year), the Raiders looked significantly better.

Jackson gets credit for doing well in 1 season, but really deserves some of the blame for doing awful in Atlanta. He didn't even do serviceable, he was absolutely pitiful.

I just don't see the reason that people are gung-ho for Jackson.

the comparison is there because he was an assistant who managed to hold onto the gig. guys you could keep on the cheap who werent really expected to be there for a long term situation. Singletary interviewed for all of 2 head coaching jobs, the cowboys and the chargers, and i suspect that had alot more to do with the Rooney Rule than it did him being ready. Cuz that was the book on him: maybe one day, but he wasnt ready. and he wasnt. he only kept the 9ers gig cuz he put asses in the seats. you'd see billboards around San Francisco with Singletary puffing out his chest with folded arms. NEW ATTITUDE. NEW YEAR. People in town wanted him to succeed, he was a likable guy and turned Vernon Davis into a pro bowler who was until then a major bust. but people in town also shined up Alex Smith for the last 6 years when the guy sucks.

not entirely different from the situation across the bay bridge, where the fanbase wanted to get behind the guy - another "no nonsense" coach and another undisciplined team with another major bust at quarterback - and a couple of players came around on his watch, but it was still shit painted gold and ownership not really putting forth a real effort into finding a quality head coach.

Davis had to make this move. McFadden is starting to earn his paycheck. the team itself is heading in the right direction. it's the smart move to make a play for a real head coach. he let Cable do the rebuilding, and now it's time to take the team to the next level. This is -also- like what happened in San Francisco. SF has a ready made defense, Frank Gore, Crabtree, Vernon Davis and an offensive line, all ready for a legitimate coach to take the team to the next level. and its not going to take much. both teams play in shit divisions, are looking for better stadium situations, and have fanbases really really really sick of losing.

The Raiders were 10 in total offense (yards per game), 6th in points per game, and 1st in penalty yardage per game.

If you don't think Jackson deserves some credit for that kind of output with the likes of Jason Campbell at QB, a rookie starting at WR, a bust starting at the other WR spot, and an OLine that looked downright awful to start off the season then you are just talking out of your ass.
