LOL at all of you who would keep out a 3000-hit, 569-HR guy out of the Hall of Fame "because he was never an elite player". A guy who can hit for power and average over a very long period of time is a Hall of Famer. Many of baseball's elite players don't get into the Hall (Dale Murphy, Dwight Gooden, Don Mattingly, etc.), so I don't think thats really a factor.
In sum, if you are keeping Ralphie out of the Hall, its due to his steroid use. There is no other factor.
You really can't make a case otherwise, Raffy's overall numbers are legendary.
Of course he had the aid of ye old 33-36 year old second "peak", but still based purely on numbers there's no way you can keep him out.
