Due to him being lazy and a quitter I have a hard time respecting anything that Moss has done. However, at his best Moss was a monster. It is amazing that even though he was a quitter his stats are still among the the greatest of all time. As for Calvin Johnson I don't think the argument is whether he is better than Moss, because he clearly isn't. The argument is whether he is capable of taking the "most talented WR ever" label from Moss.

You could argue that Moss is also the greatest disappointment of all time, cause I believe if he had Jerry's work ethic, which is what made him great, he could have topped his absurd numbers. Especially with how the game transitioned into a pass friendly era while he was choosing to be lazy or fake-retired. He should have kept dominating during that time but just didn't want to. That's not what the best of all time does and to consider that effort the best is an insult to the best athletes of any sport.

Talking about being the best ever, with pro sports having so many great players before and being the greatest of that group? I don't think it should be thrown around so lightly, it's disrespectful. If I was Rice I'd be insulted he thinks he's equal, let alone superior. Greatness doesn't take days off. Any great athlete of any sport should find insult in this. To consider him the greatest diminishes what that means.

Sorry Randy, you aren't the greatest, but I think you could have been, which makes you the greatest... disappointment.

The dude didnt sign a 132 million dollar contract for nothing. I havent forgot how much of a monster Moss used to be but the stats dont mean much to me when I see how Johnson is shitting on dudes week in and week out. This past season he was shitting all over defenders, he would fuck around and routinely get tackled inside the redzone and then Stafford or some bumfuck RB would run it in. Stats arent the end all and be all. CJ is certainly in the convo with Randy, to say otherwise, and to base it on stats alone, is asinine. Not to mention Moss also had Chris Carter playing along side him and teaching him the game.

The only reason Moss fell in the draft was because of his off the field issues. Everyone knew Moss was a top 10 talent. From a talent perspective Moss did not fully reach what he could have been. Statistically speaking he is still arguably the 2nd greatest WR ever, but common thought is that he could have been #1.

Kind of splitting hairs, though, IMO. Yeah, Moss could have been #1. But he also could have been #1 with the same amount of effort had if he had Tom Brady as his QB his entire career instead of the revolving door of Cunningham/George/Culpepper/Andrew Walter/Alex Smith.

Point taken. In reading your response I can't help but to think that you are implying that Jerry Rice is a product of his two HOF Qbs. Obviously, in most cases a WR is only as good as who is throwing him the ball, but for these elite guys Rice, Moss, Owens, Carter, etc I'd like to think that they would be great regardless.

I think Rice would have been great regardless. But, IMO, what seperates Rice from guys like Don Hutson and Jim Brown is the great postseason success that Rice had. I think if Rice had been on a team other than the 49ers (who went 18-1 and won the SB the year prior to drafting Rice), he wouldn't have had the same amount of postseason success.

Right. I don't think anyone would say that Calvin isn't the best receiver in the NFL right now, just as Moss was the best during his day. Calvin will deserve to be in that conversation as one of the best WRs when it's all said and done. He just beat one of Rice's single-season records.
