He can never surpass Rice, because of the Super Bowls, the records, and the overall commitment to the game. Can't call someone the best WR if he has admitted to not trying every play, just can't do it. Even without that, I still don't think he'd ever be able to surpass Rice. As brilliant as he's been at times, Moss is nowhere near as consistent as Jerry Rice was throughout his career.

When it's all said and done, I'd put him in my top 5 as far as all-time WRs, and physically he may be the most gifted ever, but with 0 rings and the whole taking plays off thing, he's got no shot at ever catching the GOAT.

If he hadn't had that stint in Oakland and kept up his typical production for his entire career, perhaps he could've surpassed Rice.

I think if him and Tom can continue to have to have a few more real productive years, then he'll get close to Rice's TDs. That two year vacation in Oakland really hurt him (statistically) .

I think he's roughly 60 TDs away from Rice. And he's only 32, and that's relatively young for a WR, especially one who doesn't have a lot of injury problems.


Records or not, I think Rice solidified himself as the greatest WR of all time.

Yes, but has Moss made the same commitment to his body each offseason that Rice became famous for? Because very few WRs can maintain production late into their 30s like Jerry did.

It would not surprise me if Moss became an average WR later in his career because once his speed goes, he doesn't strike me as the type of player who will reinvent himself as a possession receiver and continue to be productive. We're talking about a guy who took plays off in his prime, what makes you certain he's gonna get 60 more TDs in the twilight of his career?

I have no problem saying Randy Moss is second or third all time. Don Hutson was supposed to be a damn good WR. But I never saw him play so...

rice is greatest but moss will end up top 3, his 17 tds as a rookie will never be broken in my opinion, and even if you go back to his college days he had crazy numbers

One of those first guys that showed he doesn't need a quarterback to be good, and always made teams around him play better then they really were.

Made Randall Cunningham look like he could still play ball, kept Culpepper alive for many seasons, the guy does so much that it doesn't demand much from the QB position aside from the strength to get the ball deep, accuracy wise it really doesn't matter, as long as you throw the ball high, Moss is coming down with it.

#2 already, maybe #1 in time, MAYBE, not likely, but MAYBE.

Not sure how anyone can say Carter or Irvin > Moss

Moss already ranks 3rd all time in touchdowns and is only 31 years old. Moss will pass Cris Carter in yardage as well this year, at the age of 31. He's already passed Irvin.

He'll be #2 or #1 in touchdowns and #1 or #2 in yards when all is said and done.

It was clear Randy Moss didn't feel like playing in Oakland, if he did, it wouldn't have been the same.

Do you seriously think Randall Cunningham was what made Randy good his rookie season? or even Daunte Culpepper later on?

When Randy wants to play, he's unstoppable, the man beat triple coverage by himself when the db's gave him 20 yards to run in the waning minute of the Superbowl. he catches touchdowns in double coverage with his elbow. the man is the modern day equivalent to the NFL's version of Chuck Norris.

Moss is the greatest weapon of our gen. IMO ever.

2 greatest offenses of all time have him to thank. Outside of Oakland every QB that plays with him has career years and have legit MVP seasons.

Noone. Not Faulk , Not Rice can say they were as dangerous as Moss. You have to go back to Brown/Hutson to name guys as dynamic as Moss.

Almost by default a WR is never going to be as impactful as a RB or QB. Its a dime a dozen position. Only rarely does someone truly standout or dominate. When hes 'on' ,which is most of the time, hes unstoppable.

You cant rank him ahead of Rice or Hutson. After that it does get plausible.
The championships/records/plays/performances that Rice made regular and post season solidify his spot.
Hutson compared to his peers is just brutal. He all but invented the modern passing tree held 20 NFL records when he retired and had Jim Brown like consecutive streaks of leading in WR stats.

Moss simply cant hold a candle to these guys in historical perspective. Too many down or under achieving years. Flat playoff performances. Awful reputation as a competitor.
Simply put theres no reason that 4 of the last 5 seasons hes barely at the 1000 yard mark. Its pathetic for a guy that talented.
Would any of us look back at Barry the same way if he put him 500-1000-700-1000 yard seasons in his prime ?
Why forgive Moss for such wastes and abysmal performances especially knowing he was THE most gifted WR ever ??

Sorry but even though TD numbers , the correlation to sick offensive stats may be the guy is an under achiever , and doesnt belong in the same breath with Rice/Hutson.
