Exhausted by the distraction and lack of effort from Albert Haynesworth, the Washington Redskins have once again gauged trade interest in the defensive tackle from his former team, the Tennessee Titans, according to team sources.

It is at least the second occasion the Redskins have had discussions regarding Haynesworth with the Titans since Mike Shanahan was named Washington's coach in January.

The Titans definitely would welcome back Haynesworth, a team source said, but maintained that the Redskins' asking price was still too high. The Redskins are believed to want at least two draft picks for Haynesworth.

A Redskins spokesman said he was unaware of any trade discussions involving Haynesworth but sources say the dialogue occurred over the weekend.

Haynesworth has been a thorn in Shanahan's side since the coach took the Redskins job. Haynesworth drew Shanahan's ire by staying away from the offseason program and later lobbied for a trade because he didn't want to play nose tackle in the team's new 3-4 defense. Shanahan gave Haynesworth a chance to leave -- provided Haynesworth didn't stay around to accept a $21 million contract bonus on April 1. Haynesworth took the bonus.

Haynesworth also skipped a mandatory minicamp and was fined. When he showed up for training camp, he was made to pass a conditioning test before he could practice. After several failed attempts and several days of idleness because of a sore knee, he finally passed the test on the 10th day of camp.

Haynesworth then missed another week of training camp due to illness. Shanahan gave varying explanations for Haynesworth's idleness each day. The coach initially said Haynesworth "just was sick," then said the cause was dehydration, then finally said it was "more of a headache than anything else."

As the most highly sought free agent of 2009, Haynesworth signed a $100 million contract with the Redskins, including $41 million in guaranteed money. Haynesworth will earn a guaranteed $3.6 million in 2010 and $5.4 million in 2011.

Haynesworth has collected approximately $32 million of his guaranteed money in his one-plus season with Washington.

When these rumors were really heating up before the season, I was all for trading draft picks in order to get Haynesworth back. Now, I'm not so sure. If it's a lower pick, then I'd say go for it, otherwise stay away.

I believe there's one man that can light Haynesworth back up and have him playing back to 2008 level again, and that's one of the best defensive line coaches in the game, Jim Washburn. If it happens...in Washburn I trust.

Ive actually been on Haynseworth side for most of this. Going from potentially top 3 best defenders in the game to almost guaranteed irrelevancy isnt something you get happy about.

BTW the 3-4 is becoming a little too trendy. Matter of time before offenses wise up and start using FBs again to tear it up.

The NFL has always been a copycat league. It'll go through its trendyness, then someone will find a way to stop it and people will move away from it and recycle. We're already seeing less and less of the Wildcat.

But yeah, it's still the NFL "copycat" in a microcosm. It worked in extremely short bursts a few times and then every team threw it into their playbook, looked like fools doing it and now it's going away.

The 3-4, yeah, has been around before then the 4-3 came into vogue. Now they are going back, it'll go back again at some point.

The more I'm thinking about this, the more I want it to go down. Like I said before, Washburn is possibly the only coach in the league that can motivate Al to play near or to his potential. With the way the D-line has performed in pre-season (dominant), adding a piece like Haynesworth will make it scary. We're already deep at tackle and he won't be looked upon to play every snap, because of Jason Jones, Tony Brown, Sen'Darick Marks and Jovan Haye. Even at 50%, he's better than Haye and Marks, so if we can get more out of him, that'll be awesome.

The funny thing about this is that Redskins fans still think they're getting something big in return. Some even think we'd trade Kenny Britt and a high pick, lmao. If this goes down, it's for a third or fourth-rounder with possibly a player like Justin Gage or Haye involved. It's low risk-high reward, IMO.

Reinfeldt needs to pull this off this time. We're still a playoff team without Big Al, but with him, we could be a true contender to do something in the playoffs.

Jason Jones is possibly a legitimate Pro Bowl defensive tackle, if he stays healthy. That's been his biggest weakness since arriving at Tennessee.
