Fun fact for the day, University of Maryland is now the Big10s most recent National Champion basketball team.


Edit: the only part of this move I like is the fact that Maryland will now be on the Big10 Network and I can finally watch their games in HD

That's sad lol, but at least some of their teams have actually been relevant over the last 10 years in CBB.

SEC wants VA/DC and the north carolina markets... adding FSU does nothing for them, plus UF does not want them in the SEC... most likely it will be VT and NCSU to the SEC, with clemson and FSU to the b12... after that, its a crapshoot...

a big factor will be the pending announcement of UConn joining the ACC, probably around thursday... that will factor in immensely and when all of this crap inevitably goes to court, finding a replacement so quickly will factor into the payment...

I hope Wisconsin does (or jumps to Nike). Adidas is terrible. The new division alignment in the Big 10:
Leaders: Wisconsin, Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue, Penn State, Maryland, Rutgers
Legends: Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Illinois.

Basically moved Illinois to Legends and dumped the new additions in the Leaders division. The alignment is still a clusterfuck. I'm glad that of the four rivalry games I care about (Ohio State, Michigan State, Iowa, Nebraska), Wisconsin will play three of those teams only once every six years.

I've been reading articles all day and the general consensus between everyone on any future conference alignment appears to be..

Teams to the Big 10:
Maryland: already happened

Rutgers: all but official, supposedly to be announced tomorrow.


Teams to the ACC:
UConn: All but official at this point. Should be announced Thursday.


Teams to the SEC:
NC State: it's been noted that the SEC wants in on the DC and NC markets. It's also been noted that NC State has grown tired of being the red hedded step child (no pun intended) of NC schools in the ACC and wants to build a legacy away from UNC and Duke. They would be like Kentucky right now in the SEC being a top10 basketball program with a mediocre football team.

Virginia Tech: as stated the SEC wants into DC and VA markets. Some people argue that UVA would be the more preferred choice for its academics but VT in my mind epitomizes an SEC school from top to bottom. They apparently were accepted into the ACC but declined the invite last year. Would definitely benefit all parties involved.



Everyone else is supposedly either not wanted or content with staying in the ACC. UNC would be the last school to leave the ACC due to having such a significant say in the conference. Duke will be left behind most likely due to being irrelevant in all sports once Coach K retires unless they have some miraculous hiring. Both these teams could find their way into the Big10 as it is rumored the Big10 commish really wants to snag the NC markets. They both have the academic reputation for the Big10 and certainly fit the mold of half of the Big10 teams. This would also put both the SEC and the Big10 at 16 members, which is supposed to be the way conferences are heading.

For those wondering about Clemson/FSU, apparently the SEC refuses to add in state rivalries in the conference anymore and votes down any school applying to the conference if the state is already represented. UF and USCe are already in the SEC canceling out Clemson and FSU. Wouldn't be surprised if these schools joined the Big12 like WVU. Also wouldn't be surprised if these schools stuck it out in the ACC.
