I would say, being that he's going to a direct rival for free... no they didn't play it right. I would've done everything I could to force him outside of Germany.

Well, he was leaving and he was going to Bayern. Those two things were pretty much set. He wasn't going to another club and they cannot force that. So it was either sell him last summer for a reduced price (maybe $20m) or do what happened here - let him sign there for a free. By not selling last summer, they get one more season from a really really good striker who is still productive, with hopes that he helps them win some trophies... They clearly won't win the Bundesliga and their recent form suggests they won't challenge for the Champions League this year.

I certainly would've sold him for a cut rate or at least attempted to. Possibly you get a club in Spain or England to bite. If in the end he still signs for Bayern for free, so be it.

Still not sure who would have been better. Pep and Jose were not going there. Any other hot coaching names they passed over? They needed someone who had a bit of name recognition, especially in England. I don't know if Man U could have gone with someone like Porchettino or Martinez or some other young guy, even if it may have been the right move

Just goes to show what a dearth of talent United have right now. For the record I didn't bet this game because I was too busy but if I'd looked at the team sheets pre-match and seen Rooney, RVP, Carrick and Vidic missing I would have been on Swansea. Of that starting line up I'd say only Fletcher and Welbeck are really necessary for United in future. The bench looks just as bad.

Let's face it, when SAF was winning the league with this group he didn't have to worry about Man City playing with unity, Arsenal showing unprecedented mental strength, Chelsea having the Special One, and Liverpool and Tottenham showing much more title winning credentials than they have in recent years.

Agreed, and now that's another part of the problem, and essentially why they are just flat out stuck. I never thought in a million years he would actually get the job. I was not happy when he did, but I also was not overly distraught. I figured SAF had to have known what he was doing.

So you have to look at the list, who is there..... All the big name guys have much better jobs, and United now with this team can't attract them anyway. I would have liked Jose, but I've always liked him, and with this team they might be better. But frankly, they just don't have a choice. They have to hit bottom, clean house, and start from scratch.

I think this year, they will finish 6th, there will be about 5-6 new players in the summer, and only 2 will pan out as players. But in the summer there will be lots of players getting the fuck out of dodge. Next year will play out much like this year, and I think next summer is when a change will happen. The realization of missing CL twice in a row will cost the club money, and costing the club money is the thing that will get the ire of ownership Fergie be damned.

Until then tho, just gotta take it. Gotta take it with no Vaseline, just gotta bite the gag ball and take it.

On the Eurosport app, United were listed as 1.60 and Spurs were 4.25 or something absurd. They still get a ton of credit from bookies, largely because the rubes still think they are great
