Source: Nets Preparing To Pursue Trade For Dwight

The Brooklyn Nets are preparing to make another run at Dwight Howard, according to a source.

Playing in Brooklyn with Deron Williams and Joe Johnson was at the top of Howard’s list last summer and the Nets are convinced that he still has a strong desire to make the Barclays Center his home office. The Nets have played well under P.J. Carlesimo and feel like the addition of Howard could be the piece that gets them to the NBA Finals.

Nets general manager Billy King has closely monitored the struggling Lakers and quietly searched for a third team with an attractive piece that would help facilitate a trade that would deliver Howard to the Nets, according to sources.

The Lakers have struggled through injuries, a coaching change and a lack of chemistry this season. The team is currently 17-24 and facing the reality that missing the playoffs seems inevitable. The feeling out of Brooklyn is that Howard can be had for the right price because of the Lakers’ struggles and long-term commitment to a collection of pieces that just don’t seem to fit or complement Howard’s assortment of skills.

The Nets always have wanted Dwight Howard...the Magic were just stubborn as hell...they took a lesser deal for Dwight than the Nets were offering.

The Lakers situation, being the dumpster fire they are right now, has aligned the stars for the Nets to try one last time to get Dwight.

I kind of don't want to lose Brook-lyn though. He's back to his usual 18/7/2 self and fuck it if he doesn't get pushed around a little bit, but whatever...

Howard is the player that the Lakers need to build around long-term with both Nash and Kobe aging. That being said, what Broussard said is certainly a logical possibility. They shouldn't have fired Mike Brown to begin with, but I'm sorry, D'Antoni just isn't the right coach for the group of players that they have there in L.A. They need to go out and hire someone like Jeff Van Gundy to come in and get the players to play together. If they don't do that, then they should look to move Howard, because he'll walk following the season in free agency unless he starts liking what he's seeing with the Lakers.

The Nets DID want Howard, but they have a better center now. Brook Lopez has become the beast everyone knew he could be. It goes far beyond statistics (which aren't a very accurate representation of how a player performs anyway). The Nets wanted Howard when they sucked ass, but now they're a top team in the East (4 seed right now, probably finish 5th though) with great chemistry. No way they risk that

I wouldn't say Lopez is better than Howard, but I would say for what the Nets need offensively Lopez might be a better fit. However, even that is questionable, because Howard's offense isn't as bad as people make it out to be. When healthy Howard is a solid offensive player and is a defensive terror. Right now Howard is only about 75% and he doesn't like playing under D'Antoni or being a 3rd or 4th option offensively. The Nets are a solid team, but they really aren't going anywhere.....with Howard they could take that next step into the realm of Miami, OKC, etc. Prokhorov likes big names and if the deal was right would take Howard in a heartbeat. However, I don't see it happening, because the Lakers wouldn't want Lopez at his current price and they can't just give up on Howard this quickly.

Better in the system, I meant. I just don't see Dwight Howard working out for Brooklyn at all. The best place for Dwight imo would be an Atlanta or Houston

They need to move Gasol before Pringles can de-value him any further.

Lopez and Marshon and pick might be best Lakers would get. Might be worth it to start a youth movement.

Gasol for Calderon and Bargani might be a trade possibility as well.


Wooud open up some cash for a solid FA period. Lots if talent in RFA market with only a couple teams with money to spend

Lopez has a pretty decent Mid range to go along with his low post moves. That can possibly free up some of the post to Gasol. Lakers would probably be better with Lopez at least in that system but not the long run.
