Punting with 11 minutes to go? Depending on the field position, that could be a wise thing. Another over reaction. 11 minutes is still a lot of time.

I actually think there were 8 minutes left last week. Either way, punting when down two scores late in the 4th quarter is essentially quitting.

8 mins, I'm a little on the fence. There's still quite a bit of time left, but it's getting close. I wouldn't criticize a coach for punting depending on how many time outs they have, and what the field position is. 8 Mins, you have to figure you will have probably two more possessions if your defense does it's job.

There is an ENTIRE QTR left. No need to panic yet. I would have been OK with either the PAT or the 2PT at that point. It's NOT a no brainer in the 3rd. And most coaches have a chart for when to go for 2. Stop over-reacting. The punt at the end, I would agree with you. Why punt there. Go for it on 4th and long and either start your miriacle or end the game. A punt basically ends it. But the 2PT rant, your over-reacting.

What is the differance between, say, one minute to go in the 3rd, or 13 minutes to go in the 4th? Its the same situation, who cares what quarter it is? Coaching that way defies logic, and is indefensable.

And it's not a panic move to attempt to go from 12 to 11. Its a logic move. There is absolutely nothing to lose at that point by failing. 12 and 13 are the same. 11 is a huge difference.

I loved Spags as our D-Coordinator, but he definitely looks like he bit off more than he could chew as the Rams coach......who knows, he might learn from his first go round and come back a better coach

I was surprised when he punted in that situation though......very surprised.....

We were ripe for the taking that game, if the Rams didn't shoot themselves in the foot.....I wasn't happy with that game at all....Bradford shredded us at times

And if he doesn't want Bradford to get hit, the hell is he playing football for?

Punt would never have been in his vocabulary during that situation. I honestly never liked Spags at all and thought he was a bad fit for St. Louis.

A lot of things can happen during an ENTIRE QTR. That sure one point COULD make a difference. Far less likely to later in the game with less time remaining. That's why a lot of coaches don't even consider the 2pt until entering the 4th. It's just not rant worthy. At the very end of the third, I could go either way with the coaches decision and not rant about it. It's just not rant worthy. Now the punt at 2 mins is.

I'm in the STL area and I have no interest in the Rams. But I caught them last night and they were worse than you made them out to be W2B. It's like you can see them on the sidelines say "Awww, third and long? We'll NEVER make that. Call a screen or draw and get the punt team ready.." Then the call to punt and quit. I was really surprised that the MNF crew didn't go after them for that. Wait, let me correct that. I was really surprised Gruden didn't go off on them for that. What's crazy is that Spags was always called "aggressive" when he came to town. He's been anything but that. And I can't imagine McDaniels, who is at least somewhat competent, making all these conservative and give-up calls. That's Spags. There's NO way to make excuses for what he did. Even Spags apologists like Empire is trying to be should know that's a chickenshit call with a little over a minute left. Hmmm....actually try and win a game late when you're down or risk your quarterback getting hit?

Also, I don't get the hate on Caddy from Rams fans the past 2 days. Should have known it was a lateral, but the protection blew on that play and forced Bradford to make an awful throw well behind him. That play was an all-around breakdown. Blaming it on Caddy is just looking for a scapegoat.

Spags only ever follows the "coaching 101 manual" and its the ultra conservative, semi retarded edition of that to boot. He doesnt play the game situation, he just goes out there and PLAYS. 4th and 20 down 1 minute left? PUNT! Situation to go for 2 with inept offense to make the FG in play.. dinks and dunks on each and every down. Spags is terrible, just terrible. Terrible play calling, play decision making, no balls, terrible.

The Bears on Sunday down 30-13 and it was 4th and forever with with under 2 minutes left. Lovie went for it, and Jay got sacked...(AGAIN).

Now, WTB would you have wanted this, or what Spags did?(rhetorical) I was wondering why Lovie didnt punt? But, i do conceed the situations were quite different whereas Jay was getting a Bones Jones type beatdown all game.

Lovie kinda caught some heat for having Jay in the game and and letting him get sacked again. In todays world, there is no right thing, and everything will be second guessed.
