Stanley Cup Final: Red Wings vs Penguins Thread

How banged up are Datsyuk and Lidstrom? Are they expected to play Saturday?

If the Wings are healthy I don't see how the Pens can beat them in a 7 game series. If they are not, Pens got a shot.

It's odd how I like the Wings more than the Pens for some reason. Even though they are the Yankees of the NHL and somewhat rivals of the Sharks, I just can't help but respect them and envy them.

Lidstrom is a lock to play on Saturday, and while Datsyuk is listed as a game-time decision, he's skated twice and they're hoping to get in one last skate tomorrow from what I understand.

Tailback, I appreciate the comments. I understand the whole Yankees of the NHL thing, but it's still incredible we put together such a strong team despite the cap, and half of the team (I'm guessing, don't hold me to it) is home-grown talent.

I think no matter how long this series goes, every game will be a good one, or so I hope.

Yeah, the Wings have the best scouting team ever. No questions asked, basically since the Wings have been good, 1991, they've had great drafting / scouting and yeah... being the Yankees of the NHL, i like that..it's gonna be that way for a long time.

Lidstrom's def. gonna play like Ralnakor said, and i'd say even though its a game time decision, that Pavel's going to play.

Listening to Detroit radio locally and they just reported Lidstrom and Ericsson are for sure back for Saturday, Datsyuk is "iffy". I figure he'll be back by Game 2, but am hopeful he's back for Game 1.

I'm definitely saying Wings in 6 though. Pittsburgh got better this year, but then, so did the Wings. Taking a team like last year, adding Hossa and a noticeably better corps of support players stepping up (Cleary had 2 goals in all of last year's playoffs....he had 5 alone in that Chicago series). Plus you've got players like Helm stepping up and making an entire line of 'Hawks looking stupid on the PK (sorry 'Hawks fans, but even you guys admitted he did).

Everyone in the media has talked about how much last year's Stanley Cup meant to the improvement of the Penguins then forgets there were a group of Wings who hadn't played there either. I think this is definitely going to be an amazing and fun series, but I just don't see the Wings losing this series. If they do, more power to the Penguins, and I won't be shocked (except for Vegas giving Crosby 1-1 odds of the Conn Smythe....not even getting into that one), but at this point, I don't see the Wings losing.

Vegas has Cleary at 65-1 odds at the Conn Smythe, but if the Wings win, I'd argue it's between him and Osgood at this point based on how much impact those two have had on keeping us in the lead in games.

It is going to either Crosby or Malkin this year, unless a Red Wing has a massive final round. Crosby has just been such a MVP to this years Penguin team and has lead by example. I don't think anyone is going to top him off from winning the Conn.

I wasn't talking points. I know Crosby has the points and I really can't argue it. Heck, if any Wings player gets it (since they usually give it to the winning team's MVP except in the case of Giguere), it's going to be Osgood. I was more looking to what they'd do if the Wings win the cup.

If the Pens win, I have no doubt he'll get it, you're absolutely right there. I think Ozzie edges him out if the Wings win though.

At the end of the day, the Wings just outplayed Pitt. Crazy how at no point was I worried when Pitt was in our zone, when last series vs the Hawks and Ducks I held my breathe everytime they controlled the puck.

And I was reading about the Conn Smyth earlier in this thread and you said Crosby had double the points as Cleary, you cant deny that and how much Crosby means to Pitt, and Cleary cant win it because if you take him away thiers another player ready to step in and fill his spot.

Tonight's going to be a crazy game, and i doubt there'll be any bullshit goals, i was at graduation last night, and from what i've heard and saw replays of, all the goals were b.s. lol.

Well, we'll see if Pitt comes out and tries to make their case, but i also heard that Crosby was bitching at the refs the whole game, complaining about random shit, he needs to take a fucking chill pill and learn how to play without bitching after every whistle.

Come on Wings!, and i doubt i'll be here to watch the game tonight as well, partying to do. =p
