Red Wings star Marian Hossa won't discuss his contract status until the playoffs are over, but the Ottawa Sun reports the two sides might already have a new deal in place.

According to the Sun, the Detroit and Hossa are close to a seven-year contract extension that will be signed after the Stanley Cup Finals are complete, though nothing has yet been finalized.

Next season's salary cap is expected to stay close to the $56.7 million mark set for this year.

The Sun suggests Hossa would need to take less than the $7.45 million he's made this season to stay in Detroit.

Hossa, 29, can become an unrestricted free agent July 1 if a deal is not reached with the Red Wings before then.

Just one of the reports that have come out in the past week between Hossa and the Wings.

When I was watching though, i noticed him still celebrating with everyone he could find, even as the line started. I found it odd, and as I watched more i noticed him hurrying over and he caught the tail end of the line. 3 players maybe a the coaching staff, Babcock especially.

I didn't see any crying out of any of us (bear in mind, I know this wasn't directed at me) et:. We all gave the Pens credit, admitted the Wings played like crap and the like. Hell, even defended the Wings fans about the fact that they weren't booing the Pens, but Bettman.

Only complaint I have is the whole Crosby thing at the end. The picture posted a few posts up from me says it all with the Wings looking over towards Crosby in case he'd finally realize they were shaking hands.

It was a good game, the Wings didn't show up to play and Talbot took advantage. As such, the Pens won the Cup.

Great Series. It just seemed like Pittsburgh wanted more than Detroit did, they played very intense the whole game 7 while the Wings kind of went in spurts.

Crosby not shaking hands was weak. He should've been at the front of the line like a captain should be. Don't mean to go off topic but I really don't think Crosby should be captain of that team, he seems to immature. He's a great player, but that doesn't make you captain.

Hopefully we'll see the Pens next June for a rubber match.

Well I got lucky and the camp site I was at put up a huge projection screen for the game. They did it because of us asking if there was a TV to watch it, and a lot of people showed up. My brother and I had some good lulz with the Wings fans. When Talbot scored the first, we stood up and clapped for the "Hall of Fame goalie" making a save. Same with the second goal when he basically gave Talbot the entire side of the net.

When it was 2-0, I knew Wings were going to score sooner or later. It had to happen. And that final save by Fluery could down right be the play of the year. I would say it is a front runner in my mind.

Staal is signed through 2012-2013.
Talbot is signed to the 2010-2011 season.
Kunitz I believe still has another year at least on his contract.

So if you look at it, they will need to replace someone with the Kunitz/Crosby line (if Guerin doesn't stay), Basically make Malkin a new line if Sykora and Feds leaves and the third line stays the same.

Is there a reason for ripping on a goalie who is 3x the goalie Fleury is? Still?

Sorry, but Osgood >>>>>>> Fleury. Fleury *might* get to that point eventually, but it isn't now.

Also, I believe Osgood gave up about half as many garbage goals as Fleury. Wings shouldn't have scored in the first two games at all.

Just went through all the goals. My conclusion is that both Fleury and Osgood let in three weak goals throughout the seven games. The first two goals of game 1 were weak. In game 2, there was the terrible slapshot which floated over Fleury, game 3 Osgood let an easily visible Kris Letang shot squeeze through, in game 7 Osgood completely fucked up the Talbot breakaway and Fleury could've done better on Detroit's only goal.

However, to think that Osgood has anywhere near the ability of Fleury is just ridiculous, there's a reason Detroit only pay him slightly more than most backups. Has a undeniable habit of making some key saves but also has the inherent lack of elite reflexes and furthermore is too small to really stand out in the butterfly era.

How can you say the guy has not gained enough experienced. He has been to the finals and won a finals the last two years. I think that counts as enough experience, as he has more then most top tier goalies.

You cannot say experience > talent wins. Because I'd tell you know, most will take the talented goalie over the experienced one. Look at someone like Cam Ward. Talented as hell, had no experience in the playoffs yet won the cup. Ward is better then Osgood.

I'm just saying, if you wings guys are going to sit there and say "well Osgood has three cup rings, so he should be in the Hall of Fame" I am going to say, "Fluery has a cup ring and has been to two finals in two years. He has enough experience."

Fluery > Osgood

Well considering that Detroit had as much talent as they had, had Crosby out for half the game, and yet still managed to not win game seven should show that.

Game seven's in the Stanley Cup finals are so rare that you can't be ready for them. Even if you have been there before, it is the biggest game of the year. You can look back on your experience, but that experience means nothing in this situation. Rest of the playoffs maybe, game 7 of the finals, no chance. It comes down to who wants it more, and who has the talent. I'll take the more talented goalie every day. Would you pick Cam Ward or Osgood? I'd say Ward and Fluery are in the same boat. Both are younger, have a cup, but not huge experience.
