Agreed, that was the only one that had a real chance. Down year relative in the West. Amare back healthy, Diaw had emerged as a good option, Barbosa great shooter, Eddie House playing out of his mind, etc.

I think most of it has to do with his position. A lot of pressure isn't put on the point guard to be the guy to get a ring.

I can't remember people clamoring for John Stockton/Gary Payton to get a ring. They wanted Karl Malone and Shawn Kemp to do it. Same would have gone for Magic Johnson but he doesn't really count since he played on the Lakers and had multiple championships before the ink dried on his contract.

It kind of is though. Nash being a short, white guy is seen as an overachiever, a guy who made the most of his limited talents and physical tools. Someone like a LeBron is obviously more physically gifted to the point where people think he should score or dunk on every play, etc.

Maybe not race entirely but it definitely plays a part.

Would you say John Stockton was the same as Nash in that...nobody really talks about Stockton never winning. They do talk about Malone falling short, though.

Absolutely. Stockton is a 6'0, overachieving, etc. Malone isn't allowed to fail because he's physically superior. It's very hypocritical in a sense.

It also has to do with initial expectations. Nash surpassed all expectations of him pretty quickly. When he made it to the NBA, nobody was asking him how many rings he'd get in his career and for good reason.

Jason Kidd is another similar player that comes to mind. Very rarely do PGs lead a team to a championship. Wasn't until late into his career when he teamed up with Dirk did he get one.
