*Summary/Reactions by Matt10

Reaction 49ers:
(Applause) Matthew Stafford going to San Francisco is going to raise some eyebrows because once again the 49ers have selected a quarterback that is highly rated, but will he be a bust?

Reaction Cardinals: (Applause) It's not a usual thing to see the NFL Draft have a cornerback selected as the 2nd overall pick - especially when Chris Wells and Michael Crabtree are still on the board, but the Cardinals faithful cheered on the selection for Malcolm Jenkins. An excellent coverage player and speed - this could be the pick of the year.

Reaction Bengals: (Applause) Josh Freeman may be the absolute sleeper of this year's draft. Despite a lackluster senior year at K-State, the quarterback managed to put up significant numbers. Bengals fans rejoiced because they know that neither Jesse Palmer (72 ovr) or Ryan Fitzpatrick (73 ovr) could get the job done next year.

Reaction Raiders: (Groans) The Raiders faithful wanted a more glitzy player than Dallas Reynolds. The entire time while they were on the clock, shouts of "Who's going to get Crabbbbbb!?", followed by "We ARE!!" --- sadly, for them, the selection came in for Reynolds, offensive tackle from BYU. I will say though, that while the Raiders management might have betrayed their fans so to speak, Reynolds is a player who has been nothing but consistent his entire college career - and with a somewhat mediocre offensive line - I think this was a great choice.

Reaction Lions:
(Groans) Are you serious Lions fans? Did you want another wide receiver? Nope, this time it was Colt McCoy who got the nod - quarterback from Texas. For those that don't know, McCoy finished his 2008 season winning the Heisman Trophy (Matt10's NCAA franchise), so not all looks bad. With an aging Jon Kitna and a less than desired Drew Stanton - McCoy could fin himself starting a couple of games this year, proving Lions fans wrong.

Reaction Dolphins: (Applause) Considering he was rated as the highest wide receiver, 6th overall pick is fitting for a whopping 87-overall Michael Crabtree from Texas Tech. If the Dolphins sign this sensation, Crabtree will be the only wide receiver rated above 80. Great selection.

Reaction Bills: (Applause) One, right after the other, Crabtree was off the table - in comes the speedster Jeremy Maclin. However, by that overall of 61 (Catch 62, Route 74, Speed 99, Jump 81, Strength 45), the Bills might not see the young man except on special teams. Right off the bat, Jeremy Maclin could be the biggest, and most surprising, bust of this year's draft.

Reaction Falcons: (Applause) Whoa, another cornerback, but not as great as Jenkins this time. The Falcons thought they grabbed a steal with Victor Harris - but the 68 overall isn't really worthy of any kind of applause (the crowd doesn't know the overall). With the highest cornerback rating on the the team, Dominique Foxworth won't have any trouble holding off Harris' attempt to take his spot; although Harris seems to feel that his jersey #1 will remian intact.

Reaction Texans: (Applause) Rick Smith wanted a wide receiver to pair up with Andre Johnson - the pick was to either get Maclin or Crabtree, once those two fell out; it was a gut wrenching 15-minutes. Texans fans didn't know whether to cheer loudly (probably would have done so eitherway if a goat was selected), or boo uncontrollably. Eventually, the mix of the two became a loud clapping applause as Patrick Turner, wide receiver from USC, became the 9th overall pick of the draft. The height and speed of this young man can definitely compliment Andre Johnson - giving Matt Schaub a great target down the field.

Reaction Browns: (Groans) What were the Browns thinking on this selection, Surely with an aging running back in Jamal Lewis, Cleveland was going to select Chris Wells from Ohio State. It was a dissapointing surprise when the pick came in for Lydell Sargeant, cornerback from Penn State. I'm not sure where the decision making (if any) came from this, but I'll have to agree with the dogpound on this one...BOOO!

BEARS ARE ON THE CLOCK

*Summary/Reactions by Matt10

Reaction Bears:
(Applause) He may barely stand six feet tall, but Chase Daniel was welcomed like a Giant the second his name was announced as the 11th pick overall in the 2009 NFL Draft - to the Chicago Bears. The Bears depth is lacking, which will benefit Daniel, with veteran Brian Griese leading the way as a 79 overall. Griese will also pose a problem considering the fact he is wearing Daniel's coveted #10 jersey.

Reaction Chiefs: (Applause) With Patrick Surtain nearing the end of his road, Chiefs management have shown faith in their first draftee - Tony Carter, cornerback out of Florida State. Carter possesses the ability to make game changing performances. Standing only 5'9, and a skinny 166lbs - Carter will possibly play the nickel role - or he could challenge Brandon Flowers (77 ovr) for the second CB spot.

Reaction Steelers: (Applause) Brian Orakpo is probably one of the most gifted defensive players in this year's draft, it's almost an insult for him to be taken so relatively late. The man has the speed, the strength and the execution that is been in need for a depleted defensive line of the Steelers. I think the Steel Curtain could very well start with Mr. Orakpo - incredible selection!

Reaction Jaguars: (Applause) Losing Mike Peterson to retirement was surely going to hurt the Jaguars this coming year, but they have possibly found the best linebacker in the draft with Laurinaitis - who has the guts like Peterson did. Rated 76 overall, this Buck is going to be starting for sure as the next highest within the ILB core is Brian Iwuh at 72 overall.

Reaction Packers:
(Groans) Poor Packers. Jeff Owens was considered in the Top 5 of linemen, but his overall draft experience has been sham. It's possible the Packers might be holding onto what the young man did for the Bulldogs - and not looking at the truth...the guy just didn't put up good numbers in this combine. Maybe I'll be proven wrong.

Reaction Giants: (Applause) Uh yeah, Giants! Brian Cushing is a beast - and the Giants recognized that their depth, while numerous, in the outside linebacking core was lacking overall - now with a 78 overall rookie; this is going to be huge. The Giants could even consider playing a 3-4 this year with Cushing now in town.

Reaction Buccaneers: (Groans) Bucs fans seem tired of Garcia, that was the impression I got - so obviously they wanted a quarterback. However, with Stafford, Freeman, Daniel and McCoy out - there doesn't seem to be anymore choices. I think the selection of Auston English was a solid one, but I don't think he will be starting anytime soon. I think this was a smart pick for the sake of the future since Kevin Carter is almost retired - but I can also sympathize with the Bucs fans.

Reaction Rams: (Groans) With some aging veterans in Drew Bennett and Dante Hall, the Rams decision to go with Georgia Bulldog, Mohamed Massaquoi was an obvious one. But was he the best choice? One has to wonder if the Rams plan on drafting another receiver - maybe Percy Harvin - who has the speed and technique similar to Dante Hall. Eitherway, Massaquoi is a safe, yet unappreciated, selection.

Reaction Eagles: (Applause) Out of all the teams, the Eagles could be the only team that really doesn't need this draft. Whoever they select probably isn't going to start right away, but Jasper Brinkley could very well cancel that method out considering he is one of the best tackling linebacker in this year's draft.

Reaction Redskins: (Groans) Maybe it's a bit too early for the Redskins to grab someone they could have grabbed in the 2nd or 3rd round, but Jacob Lacey from Oklahoma State is quite possibly a steal in the cornerback department. Lacey has decent speed, sub-par tackling, but it is his coverage and catching ability that make him stand out. I think he will definitely be able to start alongside Fred Smoot (80 ovr).

TITANS ARE ON THE CLOCK

*Summary/Reactions by Matt10

Reaction Titans:
(Groans) Nope, not the right choice here. Iglesias might be a solid player, but as far as what the Titans need, it's not another receiver. He may run great routes, but all I can see from here is him running nothing but the bench. No lie.

Reaction Vikings: (Applause) I've never been a fan of the Vikings - I'm not sure if it's the purple uniforms or the boring stadium (ick, turf) - but now I might hate them even more for taking one of the best safeties in this year's draft. C.J. Byrd was a rock at Georgia, now he'll be a rock at Minnessota.

Reaction Panthers: (Applause) I think the Panthers expected Chase Coffman to be rated a bit higher, however a 77 tight-end is never bad considering that builds up some real competition amongst the tight ends with Jeff King (78 ovr) and Stephen Spaeth (76 ovr) battling it out last year. Something tells me, Mr. Coffman could definitely be starting this year.

Reaction Cowboys: (Groans) Probably the worst pick of the year, if not century, for the Dallas Cowboys - Percy Harvin may have been a speedy and successful receiver for the Gators - but his inability to run proper routes hurt him in the combine. I would say, if the Cowboys wanted a special teams guy - this is the man, but other than that....err...no.

Reaction Ravens:
(Applause) Finally, the Ohio State running back gets selected by the Ravens. May not be the 1st overall pick, but still a first rounder won't make "Beanie" crying back to Ohio. This is a great selection for the Ravens, Najeh Davenport is leading the backfield at 83 ovr, but Chris Wells has some explosive talent - we could see a real position battle going on here.

Reaction Patriots: (Applause) Roy Miller? Sure the Pats needed help on the defensive tackle area (Vince Wilfork 92 ovr), but I'm not sure about Roy Miller being the one for the job. A decent rating of 75 ovr might prove otherwise though - just seems the chance of Roy starting in Bellicheck's 3-4 defense is not likely.

Reaction Jets: (Applause) Yes! The little man gets some love too. Standing at 5'9, 190lbs - everyone knows what Sutton is capable of. He has explosive speed and can elude tacklers every which way. Comparable to a Warrick Dunn, I think the smaller running back would better suit the Jets this year as opposed to using Thomas Jones. I could be biased though.

Reaction Colts: (Groans) Not sure if this was the best choice by the Colts - there was Ben Tate still available at the time considering a backup to Joseph Addai was badly needed (no offense Mike Hart). With that said, Sean Lee is a proven linebacker, but he will probably get lost in the shuffle of an already substantial amount of outside linebackers for the Colts.

Reaction Seahawks: (Applause) The second the groans were heard from the Colts fans - the Seahawks jumped right out with their pick of Auburn running back, Ben Tate. Tate is known for his hard-nosed, plowing tacklers, type of running; but this year he has worked a decent amount of time on his speed - something that helped well in the combine, which propelled him from a late 2nd rounder to a late 1st rounder. This is a good pick and I pretty much see him starting over Maurice Morris (80 ovr).

Reaction Broncos: (Applause) Yeah, this is a good one here. Ian Campbell not only knows how to get to the quarterback, but he puts a lickin on ball carriers as well. He is the type of player that can shed blocks at will. I think this was another steal of the draft - kudos goes to the Broncos in getting someone who will more than likely start alongside Elvis Dumervil (78 ovr).

Reaction Chargers: (Applause) The Chargers seemingly ran out of time, I'm not sure who else they were looking at - but they found a fairly interesting pick with Derek Nicholson from Florida State. I think this will be another position battle for the fourth linebacker in the Chargers' 3-4 defense.

Reaction Saints: (Applause) Look out Roman Harper (78 ovr), Randy Phillips posseses the coverage ability that every coach desires, but will his lack of tackling ability hurt his chances of starting of Harper? Superbowl Champions do not take lightly to missed tackles, so my thinking is, while I like what Phillips brings to the table, I think Harper's job is safe for now.

THAT CONCLUDES THE FIRST ROUND
DRAFT SUMMARY WITH ROUNDS 2-7 NEXT

It's Over
:
Well, the 2009 Draft has ended, some fairly interesting selections, but overall an exciting one at that. I had fun doing this, created about 230 draftees - glad I had the chance to draft them and follow their progress. For those that are wondering, I controlled all CPU teams for the first round only. I did this because there is a draft glitch in NFL2k5 that prompts CPU teams to draft based on Projected round and not Team needs with a hint of projection. Anyway, I enjoyed this a lot, I didn't include the Ovr rating on the below recap because, well, it's a whole lot of work. If anyone cares to know rookie ratings, just ask.

I wish I had patience to update 2k5 with real college players.

Can't wait for your next update.
