On another note, I just got done streaming to about 15-16 people all plotting for my demise via the "Broadcast" option on Dead Nation.

The new PS4 version lets you affect the game using a voting system and I had everyone jacking the game difficulty to the point where I was just getting demolished. :lol:

Super-fun times though.

After I switched to Ghosts though? Everyone fled like the Plague came to town. :suicide:

I don't play the game to be wowed by it's graphics. I enjoy the design aesthetic (I personally think that the dark style is funny), and I think that Edmund McMillen (Super Meat Boy designer) is a great artist that is really creative. On top of that though, it's an extremely deep game that rewards practice and skill (with just a dash of luck).

If I cared about graphics, I'd just play Crysis or something.

Sometimes great gameplay comes at the cost of graphics, especially with the indie game boom. I play games, I don't sit and look at them. It has 7 year old looks, but very unique and modern gameplay. The evolution of games is more than just getting marginally prettier each generation.

We've went over this a million times. You don't like games with old school or retro style looks or graphics. No one is obviously ever going to change your mind. But people have different opinions than you have. You would probably shit a brick if you ever saw Thomas Was Alone.

It doesn't even have to have "modern gameplay" like Seth mentioned. If a game is good, even if it looks like it's an NES game, I don't give a shit. I play games because I enjoy them.

I for one can't stand turn based combat and it honestly baffles me how anyone can think it has any redeeming qualities. But people do and they have their opinions and I can't change their minds. I just know I will never play that shit.

If you don't like those old school looks, don't play it. There are plenty of games (and mods, when they work) to keep you busy I'm sure.

The same goes for Pete who just can't seem to understand why anone would want to play 360/PS3 games when the new consoles came out.

I figure this is the best place to post this.

To anyone with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on PC: it looks like Valve is going to be dropping souvenir cases to random people watching the next big tournament later this week. The last time they did this, the souvenir cases were selling for $20+ on the Steam Marketplace immediately after the tournament, and they are still going for just under $10 today.

In order to be eligible for a drop, you'll either have to watch the matches in-game or link your Steam account to Twitch and have the official livestream open during the tournament.

In addition, you need to have Steam Guard activated on your Steam account for at least 15 days before you can sell on the marketplace. If you already have it, you're good to go. If not, do yourself a favor and activate Steam Guard anyway. Not only are you making it harder for someone to hijack your account, but if the last cases are any indication, you'll still be able to sell any any cases from this tournament for a good amount when the 15 days are up.

It's a much slower burn than Spelunky, which can lead to some soul crushing moments (my longest Spelunky run is 30 minutes...my longest Isaac run is almost an hour and a half -- and it ended in death). Either way, I am loving the push in this direction over the years. My top three most played games (time wise) on Steam right now are Dark Souls, Isaac and Spelunky. This is a good thing.

I gotta have some challenge in my games or else I go on a tear and stack NPCs 10-high via Clint Eastwood-style.

It got to the point where if they didn't, I wasn't finishing the checkpoint.

I assume (without further research right now) that the votes stack (Agility Up, More Bombies, etc.) as you play.

One of my favorite parts was seeing some of the SNs from the chat used in-game as Named Zombies.

Some of the people watching got upset when their undead counterparts met grisly ends. :freshdance3:

I just downloaded the ps4 Dead Nation yesterday. I'll be down to play some co-op at some point this week. Possibly on Thursday since I've got a three day weekend the next two weeks.

Challenging gameplay, deeper gameplay, more options, online play, size/scope of the game. Lots of stuff they couldn't add to games in the 80's that don't include graphics.

Do tell...I am curious and want to be rid of it. It's embarassing that all it takes is a Mom kill. I likely would have done it one time, as I had worked my way up to 5 hearts, but then I stupidly spent 3 of them in a Devil room, and then had the wheels totally come off at Mom. And once you drop once on that stupid thing, it's pretty much impossible to bounce back.

Gabe, give me some stats man. How many of the challenges have you done? Have you beaten Satan yet?

I've beaten the game a lot of times. I've logged 100 hours beaten satan like 4-5 times, beaten isaac a 2 or 3 times, beaten mom like a bazillion times.

For the Guppy Challenge (9 lives) have means to kill yourself 8 times. Be it bombs or kamikaze pick up. Make it to the boss room, kill the boss but don't pick up the item in the boss room. DO NOT LEAVE THE BOSS ROOM. Kill yourself in the boss room and you will respawn outside of the boss room. Go in and you will see your previous item on the pedestal, do not pick it up. Kill the boss again and continue the kill yourself until you are down to your last life. After you kill him the 8th time collect your items that have stacked. It doesnt work for "Pin" for some reason. I find Larry Jr and Lord of the Flies to be the easiest bosses to beat the challenge on. Monstro isn't bad either but i wouldn't recommend doing it if you get Famine or any of the Horseman as your boss.

Just check my steam account and look at the achievements i have. I plan on 100% the game and when rebirth comes out i'll do the same damn thing. If i were to do my top 100 games of all time, this game would probably be in my top 10. I haven't logged time like this in a single player game in a very long time.

Larry Jr. sounds like a winner. One suggestion I read was to do 4 deaths against a Horseman, getting a cube of meat each time, and then letting Meat Boy do the rest. That seemed a bit daunting to me. For one, I hate the Horseman, so beating them 4 times with 1 heart sounds no fun. For two, my issues were never really with firepower with this, it's hitting that one crummy room that either decimates what little hearts I have, or has me trying over and over and over again (I seem to always encounter crap like tight walkways and those worms that rush you, or rooms with like, 6 of those fat dudes that shoot the creepy little biter creatures from under their trenchcoat/stomach).

This idea sounds much better, so thanks. I'm at about 57 hours myself, so I'm happy with 16 Mom kills and 2 Satan kills. At this point, Satan seems like a synch, after my first soul crushing go at him. We'll see how Isaac goes. Reading about it makes it sound extremely daunting.

I guess what I'm not understanding regarding your point in this Maynard, is that you claim to not be a "graphics whore", but literally the graphics are the sole thing keeping you from trying some of these games.

The look definitely plays to a level of nostalgia in a lot of these retro-looking games, but they go so much further. Isaac is like a weird blend of rogue-like, adventure, action, and Zelda 1 of all things.

Kind of on the topic of this, considering the game looks crazy pixel art style, has anyone here that's a fan of Dungeon Crawlers looked at Crawl? The concept sounds amazing, and is a very interesting twist on the genre. Basically, it's Torchlight/Diablo in nature, but it's ideally 4 player, where 1 player traverses the dungeon, while the other 3 control ghosts that they utilize to set off traps or possess monsters to kill the player. The player wins if he completes the dungeon. The ghost that manages to kill the player, then becomes the player.

Just getting to isaac without a treasure map can be frustrating. The flying angel things take a lot of hits and decimate you if they hit you. I still gotta do runs with Eve, Cain, ??? and I think Judas.

My best run was a full meat boy, Polyphemus, Mutant Spider, Little Gish and a few good deals with the devil and lucky heaven rooms to get hp up.

oh you are 100% right. i wont look at it when it looks like an old school game. that doesnt make me a graphics whore though. I dont mind less than great graphics if the game plays great and is fun. But it at least has to look like its from this century.
