I was lookin for the boxing thread, and didnt see one, so i started one.......

Cotto-Clottey this weekend, should be a great fight... I got Clottey by split decision..... but Cotto is the better boxer.... I think Clottey will wear Cotto down as fight progresses..... thoughts?

IF he was to lose to Clottey would that make him the most overated and overhyped fighter in recent times??

I mean Cotto had one of the biggest bandwagons in boxing at one point until the Margrito fight

I think Cotto can be beaten by a fighter like Clottey...... Mosley really battled with Cotto i would love to see those two fight again..... Clottey is similar in size and power, but his output in some fights hasnt been nearly that of Mosley.... if he can fight at that pace with his defensive ability i think he can win that fight......

Does anyone even consider him having a loss? That Margarito fight was disgusting, loaded gloves and he still made it to 11, props to Cotto for that

Hopefully the damage he took from the Margarito fiasco doesnt have any long term effects

I dont consider him having a loss, i dont consider Clottey having a loss to him either..... Clottey's other loss is a DQ to Baldomir for low-blows in 1999.... so they are both very good fighters....... like i said earlier, i think Clottey uses his size and strength to wear down Cotto.....

about Margarito's loaded gloves, i was pissed... i truly thought he was a great fighter, now i hope he never gets back into boxing.... seriously he could have killed someone with those loaded gloves.. Cotto might never be the same figther again.... he didnt get knocked out, he quit... which wasnt understandable before, but it is now.... think about some of the fighters that went the distance with Margarito though...Clottley and Paul Williams... though should some serious toughness..... it suckes that Margarito did this, you almost have to assume they were fighting with loaded gloves all the time.... he didnt even look like the same fighter against Mosley... would it have mattered against Mosley is the real question?

yeah I think Cotto has something to prove, the margarito fight is a big rip off and I know he is quite pissed about it.

Mosley destroyed Margarito beautifully. Does someone want to check if Margarito has a loaded chin too? He took overhand rights from Mosley for 9 rounds.

It was obviously wrong what Margarito was doing, but I enjoyed the fight with Cotto - he kept coming forward and it seemed to me that Cotto was just worn out, having already landed just about everything on Margarito.

As for the Paul Williams fight, did Margarito get close enough to hit "the punisher"? His reach and output are ridiculous.


Anyway, for Cotto-Clottey, I'll take Cotto by UD. Expecting a good fight. Ivan Calderon fighting too.

The Margarito Paul Williams fight was awsome....... Margarito didnt get close to Williams until late in the fight, and Williams was ill throwing punches but he was taking bombs... was really hurt late int he 10th but made it through...... finished strong in 11 and 12 to win the fight....... definitely was a great fight...

doesnt matter if margarito can take a shot, thats all well and good, still has nothing to do with blasting Cotto with real hands of stone and nothing really can be taken from that fight to hold against Cotto

like I said earlier and JR also, hopefully that fight didnt screw Cotto up in the future because of the damage taken

I meant after dominating the first 6 rounds he seemed too tired to finish off Margarito and started getting caught with the illegal gloves from then on mainly. I wasn't holding anything in particular against Cotto, I was trying to credit Margarito for being able to take a stupid amount of punishment with or without illegal gloves.

you seem to think cotto got tired and not thinking the gloves had anything to do with it earlier in the fight, the loaded gloves palyed a part from the first punch to the last

wow, what a fight.

I definately think more of Clottey than I did before the fight, however he had better stay far away from counter punchers.

Cotto is no doubt a warrior, so was Clottey, both fighters were hurt bad and could have stopped but went on.

End result was what I wanted, however it could have went the other way. like Max Kellerman just said there is no way I can see Cotto gettign 116 points, when I heard that I knew he would get the decision.

I would love to see the two go at it again and hope that both are healthy, I think Clottey dominated early outside of the knockdown, however I question if he could have kept that up with his history of taking rounds off, but the cut really bothered Cotto and I thought it would have been the deciding factor, the hurt knee for Clottey is probably what hurt him in the end.

like I said much new respect for Clottey, because up to this point I had not been impressed with his resume.

amazing fight , i would have been pissed if the fight got stopped from the cut seeing as the Calderon fight had already been stopped for something similar earlier

cotto won the fight no doubt b/c of clottey mistake in the 1st round and also him disappearing in the later rounds maybe thinking he was ahead by a couple of rounds

but the 116-111 still makes me laugh
